Hanna Season 2 Trailer Confirms July Release Date On Amazon Prime

The first teaser trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s Hanna season 2 confirms a July release date. The series, based on the 2011 film of the same name that starred Saoirse Ronan and was directed by Joe Wright (Darkest Hour), centers on the titular teenage girl (played by Esme Creed-Miles) and her father figure, Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman), who live isolated in a forest in Poland. However, Hanna has a spectacular set of skills, that of a super-soldier, which draws the attention of a CIA agent named Marissa (Mireille Enos). As Marissa and the CIA work tirelessly to track her down, Hanna must try her hardest to evade them while simultaneously discovering more about who she really is.

Even though the series received middling reviews from critics when it first premiered, sitting at 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, it became an instant hit amongst viewers and fans of the original film. After debuting its first eight-episode season on Amazon Prime in early 2019, it was promptly renewed for season 2 not long after. Now, the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season gives a very brief glimpse at what’s in store for fans this time around.

Per Amazon Prime Video, “all eight episodes will premiere globally on Prime Video on Friday, July 3, 2020.” Season 2 will also pick up right where season 1’s final episode left off, with Hanna now knowing “she is not the only young woman with unparalleled skill and elite training.” On top of that, she also learns that “the Utrax program has produced a whole contingent of highly trained teenagers whose development is about to reach the lethal ‘second phase.'” Check out the first teaser trailer for the series’ upcoming second season below.

Season 2 will see most of season 1’s major players returning to their respective roles, with the addition of Dermot Mulroney as Utrax’s overseer, John Carmichael. A couple of episodes from the upcoming season are also written by the 2011 film’s original co-writer and the Amazon Prime series’ creator, David Farr (The Night Manager). He’s also serving as the director of the final two episodes of season 2.

Hanna’s new season joins the lineup of several other shows and films that are set to debut on Amazon Prime Video this year. Alongside Hanna’s upcoming second season, the highly anticipated follow-up season for Amazon’s Homecoming will also be releasing on the platform this May. The new Prime Original series, Upload, is also already a big hit amongst critics, setting it up for success before its official premiere on the platform on May 1. SXSW is even gearing up to host an online film festival on Amazon’s streaming platform this year, following the cancellation of the actual festival due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The wide variety of options has provided plenty of exciting content for Amazon Prime subscribers to stream while at home, and season 2 of Hanna will surely be a welcome and exciting new addition to their ever-growing library of content.
