Halo Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know

Halo season 2 has been a long time in coming, but the hit video game adaptation is finally on the way with many exciting updates.

Screen Rant interviewed Halo producers David Wiener and Kiki Wolfkill about the new season. Wilfkill shared her excitement about exploring elements that the first season didn’t have time to dig into. Wiener discussed adapting major moments in Halo’s history, the more subjective battle sequences, and Wolfkill teased how the events on Reach will be felt throughout the show.

David Wiener & Kiki Wolfkill Talk Halo Season 2

Screen Rant: I love how dark and gritty this show is, with such great action and mystery. It’s so much fun. Kiki, what were you excited to explore this season that you weren’t really able to fully dig into in the first season?

Kiki Wolfkill: I would say two things, and a lot of it we set out to do for season 1 but, in the making of a massive show for the first time, didn’t get to everywhere we wanted to. It was definitely that grounded feel, right? Being able to express a 26th-century universe in a way that feels really relatable and that feels tangible was super important.

The other part of it was the story, and just having those characters really shine through. Understanding their motivations and intent against this backdrop of the war coming in was really critical. And those are things that David delivered in spades.

David, it seems like we might be delving into that Fall of Reach storyline in Halo season 2. Can you talk about adapting that?

David Wiener: Well, we can only speculate. I’d say that there are certain parts of the Halo universe and events that are, I think, so emotionally resonant that they really belong in dramatic form. Whether it’s the Fall of Reach or any of the other places that we’ll go in this season, it gives an opportunity to see our characters in the most high-stakes [situations] with immediate struggles, where it’s survival on the line.

Part of that is supported by the tone and the perspective that we use in shooting. In this case, we go with a very subjective perspective throughout, with a lot of oners and a lot of continuous action to give us that sense that we’re in the fight with our Spartans. And the benefit of that is that we, as the audience, are grounded not only in the fine line between horror and action, but also in the emotional stakes of will they or won’t they. Because they may not survive.

Kiki Wolfkill: It is a huge moment in Halo. And you feel the events of Reach in a way that is very different from how you may experience it in books or games. You feel the impact of what it is to be there.
