Halo Season 2 Will Fulfil The Show’s Promise At Last

Halo Season 2 Will Fulfil The Show’s Promise At Last

With the first look at Halo season 2, it seems the Paramount+ show will finally be providing the biggest promise of the franchise. Overall, the first season of Halo received a mixed response from both critics and fans of the original game series. By the time of Halo season 1’s ending, it became clear that the show was not afraid to take risks in straying from the source material despite glimmers of fidelity being sprinkled throughout the story.

While it is unclear how closely Halo season 2’s story will follow season 1’s changes given the switching of behind-the-scenes staff on the Paramount+ production, the first look at the continuation has been provided. The first trailer for Halo season 2 has restored some hope that the adaptation will begin following the lore, characters, and story of the source material with more care, especially through one major tease in the trailer’s final shot. Via this tantalizing reveal, Halo season 2 could finally fulfill the true promise of the show.

The Halo Season 2 Trailer Promises To Show The Great Rings At Last

The tease from the show’s trailer is that Halo season 2 is promising to include the titular great rings from the source material. The name Halo comes from the eponymous ring worlds found throughout the game series, with the first game centering on the fight between Master Chief and the Covenant for control over a Halo ring. That said, Halo season 1 did not include any Halo at all, instead only teasing the inclusion of one in the final few episodes.

Halo season 1 instead acted somewhat as an origin story for the characters of Master Chief and Cortana. In doing so, the Paramount+ show focused more on the overall conflict between the humans of the galaxy and the Covenant. This plot somewhat fell short given that the Halo rings, a vital lynchpin of said conflict in the games, were not present. With Halo season 2 though, the promise of the Halo rings’ centrality to the story may be fulfilled.

It’s Time For Halo To Move To The Main Story

The Halo ring in the first game, Halo: Combat Evolved, included an AI named 343 Guilty Spark who wished to use Halo to eradicate all life in the galaxy, thus stopping a parasitic race known as the Flood from infesting the galaxy’s life forms as hosts. This weaponized element of the Halo ring was being grappled for – by Master Chief who wished to destroy it, and the Covenant who wished to utilize it in their war against humanity. The subsequent games followed this story outline, something that Halo season 1 neglected.

The decision of Paramount’s Halo to move away from this story was met with some criticism. That said, an important aspect of Halo season 1 is that seeds were planted for the series to pick up the main story of the titular rings from the games. While the origin story aspects of Halo season 1 differed from the games, the future elements teased could feasibly begin adapting the source material more closely. With Halo season 2 including the titular rings, it could be the case that more fidelity will be provided and the show can move to the franchise’s main story points at last.
