Halo Infinite Will Let You Replay Levels But Devs Don’t Know When

Developer 343 Industries is adding the ability to replay story campaign missions in Halo Infinite, but it’s not clear when this will be available. The latest installment in the long-running Xbox sci-fi FPS franchise finally launched in full earlier this week following a long and troubled development cycle that saw Halo Infinite being delayed for an entire year. Halo Infinite’s story has seen high praise so far, with reviewers noting how it serves as both a solid starting point for beginners and a rewarding return for longtime fans of the Halo franchise.

However, one area of Halo Infinite’s story campaign that players haven’t been quite as warm toward is the announcement that they would only be able to play through missions once. Players can return to the locations these missions play out in to collect cosmetic items, but the only way to replay the actual missions themselves is to start the game over from scratch. 343 Industries cited Halo Infinite’s new-to-the-series open-world gameplay as the main reason for this decision, but fans are still wishing for a way to re-experience Master Chief’s latest adventure without having to start a new game outright. Luckily, this might be changing soon.

According to PCGamesN, 343 Industries associate creative director Paul Crocker recently addressed the lack of a story mission replay feature in Halo Infinite in an interview with Stevivor. He revealed that 343 is currently working to add a mission select feature to the game at a later date, but he can’t say for certain when this will be. Crocker also spoke of the challenge in making an open-world game as opposed to Halo’s traditional linear format, stating that his team’s mindset when deciding which features would be included with Infinite at launch was “it was the better option for us to make a better game and add that later.”

Replaying story missions isn’t the only feature missing from Halo Infinite’s launch, as 343 announced that the game would ship without the fan-favorite campaign co-op or level-designing Forge Mode back in August, though the developer has since reassured players that these would be added next year. This disappointment hasn’t slowed the warm reception of Halo Infinite’s story campaign or the earlier launch of its multiplayer components under a free-to-play model last month. Halo Infinite broke Xbox records for the most concurrent players on Steam mere hours after its multiplayer release, and so far the only real complaint aside from the aforementioned missing features is Halo Infinite’s heavy reliance on microtransactions.

Considering the great reviews Halo Infinite’s story campaign is getting so far, it shouldn’t be surprising that many fans want to replay parts of Master Chief’s battle against the forces of the Banished on the battlefield of Zeta Halo. While there is no word on when the ability to do this will be added to Halo Infinite, players are at least being assured by 343 Industries that it is indeed coming.
