Halloween 3D Gets Writer and Director

Bloody Disgusting received confirmation that Patrick Lussier, the My Bloody Valentine 3D director and editor of numerous Wes Craven films has officially signed on to direct Halloween 3D.  You can exhale now.  Lussier’s former colleague Todd Farmer (who wrote My Bloody Valentine 3D) has signed on to pen the newest installment of the Halloween franchise.  So if you loved My Bloody Valentine 3D, chances are you’re all set for Halloween 3D (brought to you by Dimension Films).

To recap my earlier post on Halloween 3D, this will be the eleventh film in the horror franchise that has grossed more than $300MM worldwide, was started under the direction of John Carpenter and most recently rebooted by Rob Zombie.  The franchise has largely (although not exclusively) followed psycho killer Michael Myers through his Halloween night killing sprees.

Farmer knows his way around a scary-movie script, having written Jason X, The Messengers (the story for it, at least) and Messengers 2: The Scarecrow.  Lussier brought us Dracula 2000, Dracula II: Ascension and Dracula III: Legacy.  They are both also committed (as writer and director, respectively) to the upcoming Nicolas Cage action flick Drive Angry.  Bromance alert.

Ongoing collaborative relationships (ex. Burton/Depp, Scorcese/DiCaprio) have produced some real gems in film.  Let’s hope Lussier/Farmer only gets better with time.  What’s your favorite all-time two-person team in movie-making?

Michael Myers has had plenty of screen time over the last 20 years – but of course he’s not the only one.  Who’s your favorite scared-to-love-’em horror brutalizer that’s been in at least 3 films?

Dimension Films hopes to put Halloween 3D in movie theaters in the summer of 2010.
