Half-Life: Alyx Rumored to Release on PSVR 2

XboxEra co-host Nick Baker claims Sony and Valve have worked out a deal to bring Half-Life: Alyx to PlayStation VR 2. The critically acclaimed Alyx Vance-starring adventure launched on PC in early 2020 and performed well commercially out of the gate. Half-Life: Alyx even inspired the purchase of roughly one million VR units, according to reports that made the rounds in the weeks following its rollout. As pundits and fans alike have already proclaimed, such a project coming to Sony’s new VR headset would mark an incredible boon for the platform.Sony let loose cursory details about PSVR 2 in 2020, devoting much of its public-facing attention to the controllers that are now known as Sense controllers. Months of rumors and leaks filled in many blanks regarding the headset itself, a number of which were proven accurate earlier this week during Sony’s brief PlayStation segment at CES 2022. Said segment confirmed the PSVR 2 name, 4K capabilities, eye-tracking features, single cord set-up, and previously outed foveated rendering technology. These specs suggest Half-Life: Alyx would be right at home on PlayStation’s new VR device; reportedly, Sony and Valve came to the same conclusion.Related: Valve Has New Games To Announce After Half-Life: AlyxIn response to a post from independent analyst Benji-Sales on Twitter, XboxEra co-host Nick Baker claimed sources told him that Sony and Valve entered an agreement of some sort for Half-Life: Alyx to appear on PlayStation VR 2. While Baker’s not sure when such a partnership will bear fruit, the XboxEra co-founder said he assumed that Alyx’s eventual PSVR 2 release counted as “one of those open secrets.” Baker’s full post on the matter reads as follows:[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/Shpeshal_Nick/status/1479015436981137408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1479015436981137408%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fgamingbolt.com%2Fhalf-life-alyx-will-launch-for-psvr2-rumour[/EMBED_TWITTER]Though Nick Baker has previously proven a good source of information, prospective PSVR 2 owners should take all of the above with a grain of salt. Neither Sony nor Valve has hinted at the possibility of Half-Life: Alyx migrating to PSVR. However, it’s worth noting that the two partnered in the past on Portal 2 cross-platform matchmaking between Steam and PS3, even after Valve CEO Gabe Newell blasted the PS3’s esoteric Cell processor.Despite the recent news blowout for PSVR 2, many of the most significant details remain under lock and key. Sony has yet to showcase the headset, for example, and pricing and release information seemingly won’t surface anytime soon. This strategy mirrors the hardware manufacturer’s PS5 reveal, so perhaps major PSVR 2 news will emerge during the summer months.Next: PSVR 2 Will Reportedly Enter Mass Production SoonHalf-Life: Alyx is available to play across various PC-compatible headsets but a potential PlayStation VR 2 version hasn’t been confirmed.Source: Nick Baker/Twitter
