Halan, Harmony & Aleph Face Off In Tense Beacon 23 Season 2 Clip

The MGM+ sci-fi series Beacon 23 returns for a second season, and Screen Rant has a clip from the premiere episode. The series is based on a short story series of the same name by Hugh Howey, the author whose other work was adapted into the hit Apple TV+ Silo. The show was created by Zak Penn, who wrote the screenplays for Free Guy and Ready Player One, and was behind the stories of X2 and The Avengers.

The clip features Halan (Stephan James), Harmony (Natasha Mumba), and Aleph (Eric Lange), with a furious Aleph confronting Harmony and Halan about their actions in the show’s first season finale. How Beacon 23 Is Like Hugh Howey’s Other Sci-Fi Hit Adaptation

Beacon 23 is just one of two Hugh Howey adaptations to hit screens in 2023, as his Silo short story series was adapted into an Apple TV+ drama. The world of Silo, despite being a post-apocalyptic wasteland, also bears surface similarity to that of the MGM+ series, namely in the way that main characters are isolated in a unique and claustrophobic setting. As the clip above makes very clear, Halan is trapped in the lighthouse that is Beacon 23, and in Silo, characters are forced to live underground in self-sustaining silos.

Both series also promise to build out the unique worlds that Howey originally created. According to showrunner Glen Mazzara, Beacon 23 season 2 will explore different cultures, “other beacon keepers”, “other beacons”, and “how they work both in the present and the past.” A key component of Silo is also the mystery surrounding the present and the past of the titular structure, and its protagonist’s race to unravel it.

Of course, there are more than enough differences to make both Beacon 23 and Silo a worthy watch. Mazzara also teased that Beacon 23 season 2 would explore the topic of artificial intelligence, while Silo season 2 will take a very different path. Still, the things about Howey’s writing that seem to resonate with readers—unique worldbuilding, untrustworthy institutions, and characters struggling against the constraints of their environments—are present in both series.
