Hacks Season 3 Trailer Reveals Deborah & Ava’s Reunion

Hacks season 3 gets a new trailer, which highlights the reunion of Ava and Deborah. Debuting on Max in May 2021 (then HBO Max) and hailing from creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, the series centers on the unlikely friendship that forms when Las Vegas comedy icon Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) hires the considerably younger Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) as a writer to help revive her act. The show, which also stars Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Megan Stalter, and Downs, has been one of the streamer’s top originals and has earned critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including Emmy awards and a Peabody.

Max has now unveiled the teaser trailer for Hacks season 3.

To the tune of “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John, the trailer runs through some of the triumphs and romance ahead. Ava and Deborah have a chance encounter, with both taking the same elevator and, in an amusing snapshot of what’s to come, Ava delicately tries to advise Deborah when some of the comedian’s problematic work resurfaces.

What To Know About Hacks Season 3

The upcoming episodes will pick up after the Hacks season 2 finale, in which Deborah essentially fires Ava. The moment is actually a warm one between the two, as the veteran performer encourages Ava to step on her own and focus on her own career. Time passes, but near the end of the finale, Ava is seen watching Deborah on TV and it’s clear that she misses her friend and former employer.

Hacks season 3 will focus on Deborah and her renewed success while Ava attempts to carve her own path and establish a career. New guest actors in the show include Helen Hunt (Mad About You), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Dan Bucatinsky (the 2023 movie Air), George Wallace (The Ladykillers), and Scandal alum Tony Goldwyn. They’ll join returning cast members Lorenza Izzo, Poppy Liu, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Rose Abdoo, and Mark Indelicato, along with Smart, Einbinder, Downs, Stalter, and Clemons-Hopkins.

Hacks has been a favorite with both audiences and critics, with a glowing score on Rotten Tomatoes. It has won six Emmys in the past two seasons and scored 52 victories overall across different ceremonies. It’s helped by a game supporting group and skilled writing that has so far kept the central relationship between Ava and Deborah intriguing and evolving.
