Hacks Season 3 Rotten Tomatoes Score Loses The Show’s Perfect Streak

Hacks season 3 continues its impressive streak, though it just misses its previously perfect Rotten Tomatoes streak. Premiering on Max in May 2021 (then HBO Max) and hailing from creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, the show focuses on comedy icon Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), who hires the upstart Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) as a writer to help revive her career. The premise has led the series to win several awards, including six Primetime Emmys, and has garnered widespread acclaim.

Hacks season 3, which recently debuted on Max, is still a hit with critics. But the new installment is the first not to get a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But despite that distinction, the show is still largely beloved. Based on 26 reviews, Hacks season 3 has a 96% rating at the time of this rating and has only one negative review. That adds up to an overall score of 8.90 out of 10.

Why Hacks Season 3 Is Still Going Strong

The Chemistry Between Smart & Einbinder Is Unbeatable.

The show’s latest outing picks up several months after the Hacks season 2 finale, in which Deborah essentially fires Ava. The moment is warm between the two, if anything, as the veteran performer encourages Ava to step on her own and focus on her career. Time passes, but near the end of the finale, Ava is seen watching Deborah on TV, and it’s clear that she misses her friend and former employer.

That plays perfectly well into Hacks season 3 premiere. Deborah and Ava are both successful, with Deborah, in particular, enjoying new highs after betting on herself in the season 2 finale. But it’s not exactly what she hopes for. It’s not challenging, as pretty much everyone around her agrees with her and laughs along even when she’s not telling a joke. It makes the reunion with Ava, midway through the episode, all the more electric.

Hacks Season 3 Cast Guide: Every New & Returning Character

Hacks season 3 has brought back all the fan-favorite characters from previous seasons and also introduced some exciting new additions to the cast.

Aided by the script from Aniello, Statsky, and Downs, the banter between Ava and Deborah is as good as ever. Ava is the only one who honestly tells Deborah that her dress is ugly, and it’s immediately clear that Deborah misses being called out. While it’s still early days from the ultimate end goal of Hacks season 3, with seven more episodes left, Smart and Einbinder’s chemistry is why the glowing reviews are exactly right.
