Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Teaser Makes Park Seo-joon’s New Character Even More Confusing

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Teaser Makes Park Seo-joon’s New Character Even More Confusing

The latest Gyeongseong Creature season 2 updates make the mystery of who Park Seo-joon is playing in the sequel series much more confusing. Gyeongseong Creature season 1’s ending included a post-credits scene set in 2024, which could not have been more surprising considering the rest of the show was set in 1945. Not only that but Park Seo-joon was featured in the scene as a young man in his 30s, whereas Jang Tae-sang would have to be more than 100 years old in 2024.

Moving Gyeongseong Creature from a World War II setting to modern-day Seoul is a very innovative way to continue the show. However, it is still unclear how the characters and storylines from the 20th century will tie into season 2’s story. In a show about monsters, zombies, and parasites, there is no shortage of options for how Gyeongseong Creature can “time travel” 80 years into the future. Characters have come back to life on the show, after all. Still, Park Seo-joon’s role in season 2 remains a mystery, especially after Netflix’s new K-drama slate trailer.

Gyeonseong Creature Season 2 Updates Suggest Park Seo-joon Is Playing A New Character

Who Is Ho-jae in Gyeongseong Creature after all?

The official Gyeongseong Creature season 2 synopsis shared by Netflix confirms Park Seo-joon is playing a character called “Ho-jae” in the sequel, a name that was first revealed in the post-credits scene of season 1. However, the synopsis also notes that Ho-jae bears a striking resemblance to Tae-sang, raising the question of whether they are the same character. Regardless, between the end of season 1 and the first couple of updates on the new series, it has become quite difficult to predict who exactly Park Seo-joon is playing in Gyeongseong Creature season 2.

It is not very common for the second season of a series to take place 80 years after the first, which creates a challenge for Gyeongseong Creature. Fortunately, both of the show’s leads are returning, yet it remains to be seen how Ho-jae ties into Tae-sang. It is obvious that they are connected since they are played by the same actor, but there are a few ways the horror K-drama could explain this. One simple yet not-so-interesting answer is that Ho-jae is related to Tae-sang – a son or a grandson of the season 1 character.

Another option is that Tae-sang is still alive and young all those decades later and has now taken on a new identity. Naturally, if someone realized they were immortal, this person would have to come up with a new identity eventually. Another scenario is that Ho-jae is the reincarnation of Tae-sang, someone who is not related to the season 1 lead character by blood but rather spiritually or even due to genetic experiments. Lastly, Ho-jae may be Tae-sang but for some reason lost his memories, which is why he had to create a new life under a new name.

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Teaser Makes Park Seo-joon’s New Character Even More Confusing

What complicates Tae-sang’s possible return in Gyeongseong Creature more is the fact that star Han So-hee is confirmed to be playing Chae-ok in the new season. The official press release for Gyeongseong Creature leaves no doubt that the actor is reprising her role as Chae-ok rather than playing a new character. In other words, Chae-ok is still alive in 2024 and looks the same as she did in 1945. Considering what happened to Chae-ok in the Gyeongseong Creature season 1 finale, her still being alive eight decades later is not that surprising.

Chae-ok died after being attacked by the creature but was brought back to life by this very creature, which happened to be her mother. Chae-ok’s mother passed down the Najin parasite to her daughter so that she would not die, which worked but came at a price. Gyeongseong Creature season’s ending implied that Chae-ok would now be at risk of becoming the same type of monster as her mother, or at least a zombie-like creature like Myeong-ja. It can be assumed that Chae-ok’s “monster powers” have made her immortal, which is why she is still around in 2024.

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2’s Teaser Trailers Indicates Chae-ok & Ho-jae Don’t Know Each Other

Two small Gyeongseong Creature season 2 clips have been released as of the writing of this article. While neither of them reveals who exactly Ho-jae is and why he looks just like Tae-sang, they both indicate that he and Chae-ok do not know each other very well. The teasers give the impression that these two characters are strangers, which would not make sense if Ho-jae was simply Tae-sang. Chae-ok and Tae-sang confessed their love for each other at the end of the first season, which means they should be happy to be reuniting after almost 80 years.

Gyeongseong Creature combines portions of the true story of Unit 731 with fictional elements, including zombies, in a show about generational trauma.

Assuming Chae-ok did not lose her memories, she will surely notice that Ho-jae could not look more similar to Tae-sang, which could create some great interactions. It would also be interesting if Tae-sang is Ho-jae but has to pretend he is a different person to protect Chae-ok, adding another layer to what is already a very complex relationship. Whatever is behind Ho-jae, it does not seem like Gyeongseong Creature 2, one of Netflix’s 2024 K-dramas, will give Tae-sang and Chae-ok a happy reunion, at least not initially. The circumstances of their return appear to be more tragic than anything else.

Is Park Seo-joon Still Playing Tae-sang In Gyeongseong Creature Season 2?

Tae-sang’s fate is still a mystery

There are a lot of hints that Park Seo-joon is playing a different character and not Tae-sang in Gyeongseong Creature season 2, from the different name to the way Chae-ok is reacting to him. However, it would also not make sense for the Netflix K-drama to abandon one of its main characters so swiftly. Season 1’s post-credits scene was meant to be a massive reveal teasing a surprising new season set in modern-day Seoul, but the impact of it would be reduced if Ho-jae is a brand new character and not the Tae-sang.

Part of what made this plot twist so good is how it instantly sparked theories about how Tae-sang could still be alive. Going with the reincarnation or grandson theories would be very risky for Gyeongseong Creature, as the show would have to make audiences care for a new character altogether. Fortunately, there is one major clue indicating Park Seo-joon is still playing Tae-sang. Ho-jae has a scar on his neck that suggests he once transformed into a Najin creature, which would explain how Tae-sang could still be alive in 2024.
