Gyeongseong Creature Part 1’s Ending Explained: Is Tae-sang Infected?

Gyeongseong Creature Part 1’s Ending Explained: Is Tae-sang Infected?

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Gyeongseong Creature Part 1.

Gyeongseong Creature episode 7 concludes Part 1 with shocking twists and major cliffhangers ahead of Part 2. Similar to what happened to The Glory, one of the best Netflix Korean dramas in recent years, Gyeongseong Creature is being released in two parts. The first part consisted of seven episodes, whereas part 2 will have three episodes. Gyeongseong Creature Part 1 sees Chae-ok and all of the survivors escaping from the Ongseong Hospital and returning to the city. However, Tae-sang stays behind, and while he is not dead, he might be in a lot of trouble.

Gyeongseong Creature Part 1’s ending also saw the Japanese police looking for the people who escaped the hospital, with the oppression against the locals increasing. Kato orchestrated for Chae-ok to drink a sample of “Najin” so that she would turn into a creature, just like what happened to her mother. However, he is not sure she is the one who drank it, as three other characters may have done so. Chae-ok does not know whether Tae-sang is alive or that one of them could be infected.

Gyeongseong Creature, Netflix’s new K-drama set in 1945, sees Park Seo-jun and Jang Tae-sang investigating missing people and terrifying monsters.

Who Drank The Contaminated Glass Of Water In Gyeongseong Creature

After finding out that Chae-ok was the daughter of the only woman who survived the experiments and became a fully grown monster, Lieutenant Kato tried to infect her with the mysterious parasite that caused the transformation. If the transformation had anything to do with the person’s DNA, then there was no better next test subject than Chae-ok’s daughter. It is implied that Kato tried to transform dozens, maybe hundreds of people, yet it only worked with Chae-ok’s mother. He put the “Najin” inside a glass of water and offered it to Chae-ok. However, the episode cuts to another scene, making it unclear whether she drank it.

Additionally, as Kato would later find out, at least three other people entered that room and could have drank the contaminated water. Tae-sang, Jun-taek’s revolutionary friend, Akiko, and Chae-ok all had the opportunity to drink from that glass. Considering the glass was empty when Kato returned, it is safe to say one of those four characters is now contaminated and could become a monster at any time. Gyeongseong Creature Part 1’s finale plays with that mystery, with episode 7’s final minutes following each of those four characters as Kato wonders which one of them is now infected with the Najin.

How Did Tae-sang Escape Sergeant Haneda

Tae-sang’s hand leaving a mark of blood on the wall in Gyeongseong Creature episode 7

Gyeongseong Creature episode 7 opened with Tae-sang laying over a giant pile of bones, and it was unclear whether he was even alive. While Tae-sang was not dead after all, things were still very much complicated for the character. Tae-sang managed to escape the hospital, but Sergeant Haneda found him. Haneda had Tae-sang at gunpoint, and the sergeant had no intentions to let Tae-sang walk out of there alive. However, the episode cuts to another scene, and when it comes back to Tae-sang, both he and Haneda are lying on the ground together. Tae-sang was hurt, but Haneda’s body wasn’t properly shown.

One logical assumption is that Tae-sang managed to take the gun out of Haneda’s hand, which led to a fight in which they both got hurt. However, the fact that Tae-sang is one of the people who may have drunk the contaminated water means he could have transformed into a monster without even knowing. Gyeongseong Creature episode 7 ends with Tae-sang walking out of the hospital with blood all over his body, as Kato wonders if the person who drank the water will become a creature. Tae-sang’s hand leaving a mark of blood on the wall could be a red hearing, but it could also mean he is now a monster.

What Is The Najin In Gyeongseong Creature

“Najin” is how Lieutenant Kato, obsessed with the creature that he treats as a goddess, refers to the mysterious life form that begins the transformation. “Najin” can have different meanings in Japanese, including but not limited to something aesthetically pleasing or the seed produced by a fruit. Both of these would fit into how Kato perceives the parasite – something that creates a beautiful, perfect offspring in the form of a creature. Gyeongseong Creature’s opening credits confirm the parasite came from the ocean, and that the Japanese first came in contact with it after finding an infected girl who destroyed her entire village.

What Happened To Chae-ok’s Mother In Gyeongseong Creature

Gyeongseong Creature Part 1’s final episodes confirmed that Chae-ok’s mom was turned into a monster as part of Kato’s cruel experiments. While the creature would stop at nothing and seemed to care only about feeding off of humans, she recognized Chae-ok. Not only did the creature stop attacking Chae-ok, but it also protected her. Whether the transformation is reversible remains to be seen, but Chae-ok’s mother is currently still a monster. She is sedated and is being kept in one of the holding cells at the hospital. Interestingly, Chae-ok has yet to tell her father what happened to her mother.

How Is Lady Maeda Connected To The Ongseong Hospital

Lady Maeda receives a file in Gyeongseong Creature episode 7

One of the most important reveals of Gyeongseong Creature episode 7 is that Lady Maeda, who is married to Commissioner Ishikawa, is directly involved with the experiments that are being conducted at the Ongseong Hospital. One of the wealthiest people in the town, Lady Maeda sponsors the hospital and knows exactly what is happening there. Maeda is the one who chose Director Ichiro to lead the research team, meaning she is essentially the head of the operation. Director Ichiro fears Maeda, as he knows that her money gives her all the power when it comes to keeping the hospital and the experiments going.

It is unclear what Lady Maeda’s goals are. She may want to help create human weapons for the war, just like Ichiro does, but she also seems to have personal agendas. For example, Maeda sent Akiko, whom she knew was her husband’s mistress, to the hospital after finding out the woman was pregnant. Additionally, Lady Maeda chose Chae-ok’s mother as one of the test subjects for Kato’s monster research. Commissioner Ishikawa is oblivious to how much power his wife holds over the hospital and, therefore, over the city as a whole. More about Lady Maeda’s past and plans are to be revealed in part 2.

How Gyeongseong Creature Episode 7 Sets Up Part 2

A severely injured Tae-sang leaves the hospital in Gyeongseong Creature episode 7

There are three Gyeongseong Creature episodes left after Part 1. However, episode 7 felt like a finale of its own, with major reveals, cliffhangers, and big setups for Part 2. The answer to the mystery of who drank the contaminated glass of water might be the most important storyline going into the remaining three episodes, with four different outcomes still on the table. The other question that still needs to be answered is how and why Lady Maeda began the hospital operation. She clearly has the resources, but what her ultimate goal for the creature is remains to be seen.
