Guardians of the Galaxy vs. The Avengers: Who Would Win An MCU Fight

Guardians of the Galaxy vs. The Avengers: Who Would Win An MCU Fight

The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy are the two premier superhero teams featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one clearly reigns supreme. Team-ups have been a common occurrence in the film series, seeing as threats became greater as time went on. While the Avengers roster might look a little different in Phase 4 and beyond, the original team was crucial in the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The team, of course, received plenty of help from the other suitable forces, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, but not before forgoing in a few head-to-head fights.

Phase 1 of the MCU essentially laid the groundwork for the debut Avengers team-up event. After solo movies introduced Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, and Thor, the foursome were joined by Hawkeye and Black Widow for 2012’s The Avengers. The group put their differences aside to defend New York City from Loki and the Chitauri, marking their first major battle fought together. The Guardians of the Galaxy, on the other hand, came into the fold with the MCU’s tenth installment. By then, the Avengers were already established, but they primarily protected the earth from threats while the Guardians of the Galaxy were misfits that fought otherworldly beings in space.

The Guardians of the Galaxy, which consisted of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, and eventually Mantis, were vital to the Thanos arc in the MCU. After some of the members’ first official run-in with the villain, they arrived on Titan for a planned ambush only to find some of the new-look Avengers, including Tony Stark. After a quick battle on Titan, the two groups realized they shared a common goal, putting an end to the fight. That was the closest the Guardians of the Galaxy came to going toe-to-toe with the Avengers, but if the two teams did fight, the latter would win the well-matched fight.

Why The Avengers Would Win A Fight Against The Guardians Of The Galaxy

On the surface, the original Guardians of the Galaxy represent a scrappy rag-tag team, but they are all very experienced in combat. With his Celestial bloodline, Star-Lord has superpowers in addition to his expert weaponry skills. Whereas Gamora is agile and above average when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, Drax serves as the muscle of the group. Groot also possesses enormous strength when he’s at his full size, but he’s not often in the mood for violence unless absolutely necessary. Rocket, on the other hand, is always ready for a fight despite being the smallest member of the team. Granted, the Avengers get the advantage just from their size alone, but there are numerous other aspects of the team that would go in their favor.

The original Avengers consisted of a genius equipped with head-to-toe armor, a rage-fueled man exposed to radiation, a super soldier, an Asgardian god, and two experienced S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. They may have had their differences, but when situations arose, the Avengers had chemistry on the battlefield. It was also proven that they had better weapons, technology, and intelligence needed to overcome dangerous challenges. They also understood the difference between avenging someone’s death (hence their name) compared to getting revenge on an enemy, which was something the Guardians struggle with, particularly Star-Lord. With the original Avengers team now defunct, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s primary group of protectors, but it could now be time for the Guardians to move to the top of the list.
