Guardians of the Galaxy Game Debuts Comic-Inspired Outfits

Eidos Montreal recently showed-off some alternate costumes for Gamora in the soon-to-be-released Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, each one taken directly from the comics. Square Enix’s take on the popular space heroes is only a few weeks away, which will allow players to step into the role of Peter “Star-Lord” Quill as he’s tasked with rallying his rag-tag team of outlaws to save the Marvel-set universe – amid the tunes of a rocking ’80s soundtrack.

As was the case with Square Enix’s Marvel’s The Avengers and both of Insomniac’s recent Marvel’s Spider-Man games, players will be able to select alternate costumes for Peter and his crew, including outfits based on their critically successful outings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Drax’s look from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Unlike The Avengers though, developer Eidos Montreal says all of the alternate skins in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be unlockable in-game, without any of the microtransactions. Now, Gamora is stepping into the spotlight with some classic comic book threads that players will be able to wear in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

The official Twitter page for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (via GameRant) recently posted brief video clips of three alternate outfits that will be available for Gamora once the game launches later this month. The first ensemble is the green and purple “Black Vortex” costume from 2015’s Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: Black Vortex Alpha #1, the second is a black leather “Casual Kill” jacket inspired by 2015’s Infinity Gauntlet #2, and the third is the padded grey “Chosen Daughter” uniform from 2016’s Gamora #1.

While Star-Lord will be the only playable character in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora will still be a prominent figure in the game thanks to a battle system that will let players issue commands to her and her fellow Guardians during combat. Fans have already gotten a good look at Gamora’s default outfit in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a suit of sleek white armor that art director Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc says is meant to signify how the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy is ready to strike at any moment. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will also feature a different take on Gamora than Zoe Saldana’s portrayal in the MCU, with the former dealing with her troubled past as an enforcer to Thanos and subsequent rebellion with the help of Richard Rider (known as Nova) – all before meeting Star-Lord and the others in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Like any other classic comic book character, Gamora has had many well-remembered looks throughout her many decades in the pages of Marvel Comics – which means that Eidos Montreal has plenty of options to choose from when it comes to creating alternate costumes in its upcoming superhero adventure. Regardless of her alternate costumes, though, Gamora will likely be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield when Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy blasts off on October 26.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will release on October 26 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC and GeForce Now.
