GTA: Vice City Player Betrayed By Lance Vance Way Too Early

In an amusing turn of events, one Grand Theft Auto: Vice City player has been spotted being comically arrested due to Lance Vance betraying them earlier in the game than expected. Players are flocking to original consoles to re-experience the groundbreaking PS2-era classic following the disastrous launch of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition that left long-time GTA fans disappointed. Despite GTA Vice City being the best visual remaster in the collection, players are returning to the classic edition of the game to bring back nostalgic memories of the mid-2000s, and to enjoy the title’s original atmosphere and graphics that shaped the series.

Released in 2002, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City takes the series to the tropical location of Vice Citybased on Miami, Florida during the 1980s. Although not a massive visual leap from its predecessor, the title introduces many new elements to the series and went on to receive critical acclaim for its music, gameplay, story, and its open-world, which hosted a handful of memorable characters and iconic moments. GTA Vice City also included numerous famed actors who took on roles as important characters throughout its story. One fan-favorite character, Lance Vance, played by Miami Vice star Philip Michael Thomas, shocked players, as his close relationship with the protagonist ultimately ended in betrayal, making it one of the most unforgettable moments in Vice City.

Shared on Reddit, user R_Avenger770 posted a clip of themselves being arrested after being shot by Lance Vance, claiming that they had been betrayed by the character way earlier than expected. During the clip, the player can be seen trying to complete the mission “Cop Land” where players are assigned with acquiring police uniforms, stealing a police car, and destroying evidence in the North Point Mall. In the first part of the mission, where players are tasked with luring police into the garage to acquire their uniforms, the user can be seen parking their car before randomly attacking a pedestrian to draw in attention. Sadly, this goes terribly wrong, as they are shot by Lance Vance with a shotgun, and automatically get arrested once they hit the ground in a dramatic yet hilarious turn of events.

Though Lance Vance meets a terrible fate in Grand Theft Auto due to double-crossing the main protagonist Tommy Vercetti during its story, the fan-favorite character returns in the PSP GTA prequel game, Vice City Stories. During this title, Lance can be seen slowly ushering his brother and protagonist Vic into drug trafficking, although looking younger and more oblivious. Vic, however, dies at the beginning of Vice City, and Lance is seen taking over the drug business and being the sole member of the Vance Crime Family.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is known as one of the greatest games of 2002 and its iconic moments and memorable characters like Lance Vance give players a reason to annually play the title. While the game is considered to have aged poorly, the assortment of its aesthetics and general storytelling offers something for everyone and will continue to do so for years to come. While many have been disappointed in the GTA Trilogy remaster, Rockstar has promised fixes are on the way, which could indeed one day make it the definitive way to play Vice City.
