Green Lantern’s Worst Enemy Sinestro Earns New Powers in the Perfect Twist

It won’t be long before 2023 is in the books, and DC Comics has revealed what it has in store for the upcoming fall. DC’s November solicitations reveal an abundance of highly-anticipated stories. The Monsterverse continues its crossover with the DCU in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong and Batman: Off-World sends the Dark Knight to outer space. Meanwhile, Green Lantern has an old threat to deal with.

Sinestro has seized control of Ferris Air! As the rage builds to cataclysmic levels within Hal Jordan’s most vicious adversary, the power of the Red Lantern ring has turned Sinestro’s wrath into a planetwide fury! Hal’s only hope? To break United Planets law and lure the villain out into the final frontier…

Green Lantern #5 by Jeremy Adams and Xermanico continues their story of Hal Jordan trapped on Earth. But now, he’s going to have to deal with the fallen Green Lantern Sinestro in his backyard. If it wasn’t bad enough sharing the same planet as Sinestro, Hal’s old teacher has replaced his iconic yellow weapon with a Red Lantern Power Ring, and the villain’s rage is making him more powerful than ever. Green Lantern’s only hope is to break quarantine and lure Sinestro off-planet.

Green Lantern’s Nemesis is Becoming a Red Lantern

Green Lantern’s Worst Enemy Sinestro Earns New Powers in the Perfect Twist

As a former member of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan often came into conflict with the man who taught him everything. Sinestro was once a Green Lantern who was kicked out of the Corps for his abuse of power on his home world of Korugar. Sinestro later formed his own Corps, utilizing the Emotional Spectrum’s Yellow Light of Fear. However, Sinestro stepped down from his Corps and is currently living on Earth, as is Hal Jordan after the United Planets assumed control of the Green Lantern Corps and placed Earth under quarantine.

In his crusade against the Green Lanterns, Sinestro has used several alternate lights such as yellow and ultraviolet. But for the first time, he’s assuming control of a Red Lantern Power Ring. The Red Lanterns operate like any other Corps, only instead of will or fear, their primary emotion is anger. Red Lanterns are powerful and often uncontrollable, losing their minds to the crimson light and turning into ravenous beasts. But Sinestro has mastered other lights, and it makes sense he’d crack the secrets of a red Power Ring. This upgrade could finally give Sinestro his greatest edge over his longtime nemesis.

Sinestro Has the Perfect Green Lantern-Killing Weapon

Sinestro and the Sinestro Corps

Most Red Lanterns are mindless and can’t form constructs like Green Lanterns. But when Hal briefly wore a red Power Ring, he managed to create powerful constructs out of the acidic bile that Red Lanterns spew. If Sinestro’s figured out how to do the same thing, it’s going to get bad for Hal fast. Red Lanterns are destructive enough, and their bile is corrosive enough to eat through Green Lantern constructs. Add in Sinestro’s devious mind and there’s no telling what he’s got planned. Sinestro’s new ring could be the most dangerous ring he’s ever worn, and Hal may not be able to take his nemesis on without assistance. Fans can see more of Sinestro’s upgrade when Green Lantern #5 releases November 14th.
