Green Lantern’s Mysterious New Ring Completely Changes Hal Jordan’s Powers

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern #3!Hal Jordan is discovering his new Green Lantern Power Ring is a bit more powerful than his last one. Jordan may have left the Corps, but that’s not stopping the Emerald Knight from ring-slinging. And a particular function of his new ring is already putting Hal’s old one to shame.

In Green Lantern #3 by Jeremy Adams and Xermanico, Hal Jordan is in free fall after his new Power Ring shorts out when he tries to leave Earth’s atmosphere. He manages to recharge the ring with his own willpower and notes how different this new ring is compared to his old one.

Green Lantern’s Mysterious New Ring Completely Changes Hal Jordan’s Powers

Green Lantern checks to see if he can still make hard light constructs. Not only can he do that, but instead of being solid green, Hal can make his constructs refract the light differently so they take on a more lifelike appearance. Green Lantern’s construct of an antelope is so realistic it even fools a hungry cheetah.

Green Lantern’s New Ring Can Make Realistic Constructs

Times have changed for the Green Lantern Corps. The Guardians are missing and in their stead, the United Planets have assumed control of the Corps. Due to recent events on Earth, the organization quarantined Sector 2814, leading to Hal resigning from the Corps. But after returning home to Earth, Hal came across a criminal using Manhunter amor. Hal was able to siphon the energy from the armor and create a new Power Ring independent of the Corps. However, Green Lantern’s new ring lacks crucial things his previous one possessed, such as artificial intelligence.

Green Lantern being able to make more realistic constructs isn’t exactly new. During the Silver Age, Hal’s ring was able to make constructs of any color. It wasn’t until later that constructs made using a Green Lantern’s Power Ring became solid green. But now that this power has returned to Green Lantern, it opens up a new world for him. With just a bit of thought and effort, Hal can create objects and simulations that are lifelike enough to trick living beings. Sure, fooling a cheetah isn’t that hard. But as Hal adjusts to this new power, he may find himself relying less on raw power and more on creative and clever applications of his constructs.

Green Lantern Has a Smarter Way of Fighting Crime Now

Green Lantern Flying DC

Hal Jordan is already renowned for his skills with a Power Ring, and that was before he could create realistic simulations. With this new ability, he could spend less time generating constructs that rely on power or strength and instead fight villains with deceit and trickery. Granted, not every villain is going to fall for a hard-light construct. But now that Hal’s creations aren’t solidly green, it’ll be hard for certain villains or criminals to tell the difference. In a dangerous situation, Green Lantern being able to create a more realistic construct could be the difference between life and death.
