Green Arrow’s Most Iconic Weapon Just Got a Vicious Upgrade

Green Arrow’s Most Iconic Weapon Just Got a Vicious Upgrade

Warning! Contains spoilers for Green Arrow #2The silliest weapon in Green Arrow’s quiver has made a return and been given a powerful upgrade. As Oliver Queen and Lian Harper struggle to stay alive, a key part of Green Arrow’s history returns to pack a mean punch.

In Green Arrow #2 by Joshua Williamson and Sean Izaakse, Oliver Queen is far from Earth after he disappeared during Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. But he’s no longer alone, as he’s been joined by Arsenal’s daughter, Lian. Though Green Arrow isn’t home, he’s still doing what he can to bring justice to those in need. Oliver encounters a crime lord that’s trafficking drugs and when Oliver refuses to look the other way, the kingpin sends an enforcer named Troublemaker after Green Arrow. The hero tries to hold his own, but Troublemaker is too much for him to take alone.

Fortunately, Lian enters the fray with a bow and arrow of her own. Her shots don’t seem to be much help, sometimes even missing Troublemaker completely. However, Lian pulls out the Boxing Glove arrow with an added rocket attachment and shoots Troublemaker in the face, knocking her out cold.

Green Arrow’s Boxing Glove Arrow is Much Stronger Thanks to Rockets

Oliver might get guff for being ‘just an archer’ in a world filled with aliens and gods, but the truth is his skills with a bow and arrow border on superhuman levels. Not only that, but Green Arrow also fights crime with a cache of specialized arrows. Some have smoke-bomb tips, some can deploy nets, and some even deliver devastating shocks. But the most iconic weapon in Oliver’s quiver is the Boxing Glove arrow.

It might seem like a joke, but the Boxing Glove arrow is quite a useful tool. Not only is it non-lethal, but it’s able to strike enemies with a much greater force than Oliver could ever achieve with his fist. That said, the previous version of the Boxing Glove arrow was really only good for taking out humans, not highly durable aliens. But the addition of rockets to the classic mainstay is the best upgrade Green Arrow could have asked for. Now Oliver can use one of his favorite weapons on even tougher foes while he travels the universe.

The Boxing Glove Arrow Can Defeat Green Arrow’s Most Powerful Enemies

Green Arrow Variant DC Comics

Oliver is more than capable of handling himself with his usual selection of arrows. But now he’s lost in the universe and facing foes a bit more powerful than what he’s used to. Green Arrow needs a way of taking down these new villains in a way that won’t violate his non-killing principles. And it looks like Lian found the best way for him to do this. Adding rockets gives the Boxing Glove arrow a bit more propulsion, and therefore more force. It allows Green Arrow to defeat a stronger enemy, but not kill them. Who knows what other sort of dangers Oliver and Lian will encounter as they travel the cosmos? But thanks to this twist on a classic, they might be just fine.
