Green Arrow and the Canaries: 10 DC Female Villains The Spinoff Should Introduce

Green Arrow and the Canaries: 10 DC Female Villains The Spinoff Should Introduce

The Arrowverse might get another spinoff in the coming TV season along with Superman & Lois. With Arrow officially over, the Green Arrow saga has the chance of living on through Green Arrow and the Canaries. Starring Mia Queen and the two Black Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake, the backdoor pilot aired earlier this year before season 8 came to an end. With The CW still figuring out if it will go to series or not, fans will have to continue being optimistic that the spinoff gets included in the 2020-2021 TV season.

With the show being set in the future and now following a trio of DC heroines, Green Arrow and the Canaries have the potential to introduce some new DC villains along the ride. With the Arrowverse always needing some more female foes for the heroes to take on, these are 10 DC villainesses that the spinoff will consider introducing.

Lady Shiva

Green Arrow and the Canaries: 10 DC Female Villains The Spinoff Should Introduce

Since this is as close as The CW will get to a Birds of Prey series, Lady Shiva is one of the perfect villains to bring in. In fact, there were a number of times where Shiva could have been introduced during Arrow’s run. But for whatever reasons, she never made it into any of the 8 seasons.

For the future-based spinoff, Shiva would serve as a solid big bad once they wrap up the arc that they began in the backdoor pilot. Whether she comes from the present to the future or exists already in 2040, there’s a lot of potentials to be embraced with her.

Cheshire

Cheshire

Since Roy Harper left the series during season 3 and only appeared in a handful of episodes in the following seasons, they never got around to introducing Cheshire. In the lore and even seen in Young Justice, Cheshire and Roy get romantically involved which leads to the birth of their daughter Lian. Since Roy got his happy ending with Thea, the daughter angle may not be as relevant as it was in the comics. But introducing Cheshire as a villain for the trio would still be doable.

Queen Bee

While Arrow introduced the H.I.V.E. organization in season 4, it barely resembled its comic counterpart. But with Crisis on Infinite Earths having changed the history of Earth-Prime, they’re now able to get a redo. This time, however, they should use the opportunity to introduce one of H.I.V.E.’s most famous associated characters: Queen Bee.

Since there have been several iterations of Queen Bee, Green Arrow and the Canaries would benefit from doing an amalgamation of some of them. Either way, having a new take on H.I.V.E. with one of the Queen Bees as its proper leader would give the Arrowverse a shot to properly adapt the villainous force.

Female Furies

The next big threat that could outdo the Anti-Monitor is the many characters that exist on Apokolips. While Darkseid might be better used as a future big bad for crossovers, there are still the Female Furies and Granny Goodness that the trio could go up against. Perhaps a set up for a future Apokolips invasion could begin on this show with the Female Furies coming to Earth first.

Star Sapphire

Whether or not the Arrowverse goes full out with Diggle becoming Green Lantern has yet to be determined. Should the Emerald Knight mythology begin to get incorporated into The CW’s DC TV Universe, which opens the door for another female foe to enter the small-screen: Star Sapphire.

While most may think of Carol Ferris as the primary Star Sapphire, there is a whole league of them. The better option for the spinoff would be to use one of the other Sapphires a recurring foe.

Superwoman

At some point, the characters of Earth-Prime will discover that there is still a Multiverse out there. Whenever that story begins, it could open the door for Superwoman to enter the Arrowverse. There have been multiple people to have carried that title from Lucy Lane, Lois Lane, Lana Lang amongst others.

Some have been evil versions of the iconic DC characters. For Green Arrow and the Canaries, having Elizabeth Tulloch play an evil doppelganger as Superwoman would be entertaining. Not only does the spinoff get to play with the Multiverse concept, but it can become a small crossover with Superman & Lois.

Plastique

In season 1 of The Flash, Bette Sans Souci was introduced for one episode before getting killed off. But with the help of Crisis, her death could be undone and allow the character to be used as a recurring villain this time around.

It was always a weird choice to kill off her after only one episode. But thanks to the recent crossover, decisions like that can be easily erased, allowing more stories to be told.

Cheetah

Wonder Woman Fighting Cheetah

While Wonder Woman hasn’t properly arrived yet in the Arrowverse, her presence has certainly been teased. But the same can be said about some of her famous villains as Cheetah was revealed to exist within the franchise. While viewers never saw her, Cheetah’s name can be seen outside one of the A.R.G.U.S. cells. It’s still unclear which version of Cheetah was meant to be inside that cell. But either one would serve as a fun villain for the heroines to take on, regardless if it leads to Diana Prince’s on-screen debut.

Scandal Savage

Scandal Savage

Vandal Savage was one of the first villains for Legends of Tomorrow before he was destroyed completely in season 1. During his time, he had a daughter present named Cassandra who had similar traits to Scandal Savage, Vandal’s daughter in the comics. In the post-Crisis world, it’s now possible to properly introduce Scandal and perhaps even hint at Vandal being alive again. An introduction of Scandal could also perhaps be a way to bring in the Secret Six as a team for the heroes to take on.

Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn and Batman

It is probably a long shot for The CW to ever get access to Harley Quinn completely. But given that the network has gotten access to characters like Superman, the Bat-mythology and more, anything might be possible now. Since she had an unnamed cameo in Arrow’s second season, the spinoff could be a fun way to introduce Harley on-screen, but the 2040 version of her.

Since famous Harley Quinn-voice actress Tara Strong got to play her in the cameo, it would only be proper if she got to play the live-action version of the famous villain. Similarly to Kevin Conroy finally getting to play Bruce Wayne in live-action, Strong deserves to play Harley just as much.
