Grant Gustin Gets The Perfect Easter Egg In Emotional The Flash Movie Ending Edit

A new The Flash movie ending edit gives Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen the perfect Easter Egg. Gustin played Barry over nine seasons of The Flash in the Arrowverse; however, the actor was nowhere to be seen in the DCEU’s multiverse movie. Gustin’s absence was one of The Flash‘s most controversial topics, but thanks to a fan edit, the Arrowverse’s Barry Allen has now gotten his own The Flash movie Easter Egg.

On Twitter, @kylelindecke shared a The Flash ending edit that adds Gustin’s version of The Flash through the use of a song.

In The Flash video edit, the movie ends sooner than it did, with Barry coming home after his multiverse adventure to find that Iris had left a note for him in his apartment. Gustin’s voice can be heard softly singing “Runnin’ Home to You” — the song the Arrowverse’s Barry Allen sang to his Iris West to propose to her — which then gets louder as the movie fades to black. The edit gives The Flash a much more emotional final scene than the one seen in theaters.

Why The Flash’s Ending Was Bad

The Flash‘s ending had its fair share of emotional moments, with Barry saying goodbye to his mom and his dad being cleared of her murder after the speedster messed just a tiny bit with the past. However, the actual final scene of the movie failed to keep that emotional component. After The Flash’s multiverse adventure, Barry came back to his reality, only it had one major difference.

Ben Affleck’s Batman didn’t appear, nor was he replaced by Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight — who was dead by The Flash‘s ending — but the Bruce Wayne that meets Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen was none other than George Clooney. The actor played Bruce in 1997’s infamous Batman & Robin, one of the most criticized superhero movies of all time, which made his return a clear joke — a cameo for fun — not teasing any future appearances as one of the other versions of Batman showing up might have.

The use of The Flash‘s final scene for a joke, after the movie had just presented one of DC’s most heartbreaking scenes in live-action when Barry said goodbye to his mom not long before, was a poor decision. Clooney’s Batman appearing was a major tonal shift, made worse by the baffling decision to have one of Barry’s teeth fall out — with extremely bad CGI — as the camera closed in on him. That is why The Flash ending edit with Gustin singing and Barry finding Iris’ message hits much harder as a final scene for the DCEU film.
