Fans of the Rockstar Games franchise Grand Theft Auto have been avidly awaiting the release of the sixth installment in the main franchise as it has been more than seven years since GTA V was released. Insider Tom Henderson however has revealed the news that would disappoint fans further as he claims that the game is most likely to not release before 2025. While Rockstar had stayed silent, the internet seems to be believing Henderson’s claims given his accurate track record with such updates.
As expected, Twitter is having a field day with reactions and memes, ranting about the wait, or just listing down their expectations from the finished product.
‘Me And The Homies’
If GTA VI actually comes out in 2025, then it would be more than a decade since the last game. All those players who had their GTA experience in their younger days would definitely be much older by the next release as this tweet implies.
However, one thing is for certain. Despite the delay, the game’s fanbase is so strong that they would still be willing to play it by any means possible, regardless of how many years they will have to wait.
The Map
The aforementioned insider Ben Henderson also hinted at the possibility of GTA VI returning to the fan-favorite Vice City with the map getting expanded across downloadable content and updates.
Given the wait, fans will be expecting a larger map with all possibilities. It’s no secret that the franchise is a cheeky satire on America. So, it only makes sense for there to be a GTA game that would end up covering the entirety of the United States on its map.

Even a Simpsons meme page took a sarcastic jab at the delay stating how gamers need not worry when The Simpsons spawned the ‘best GTA game.’
The Simpsons: Hit & Run was released way back in 2003 as an action-adventure game for the PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The game allowed players to explore Springfield and engage in missions along with timed quests. The open-world-like format can prompt some to dub it as a parent-friendly version of GTA.
‘My Day Is Ruined’
GTA fans aren’t the only gamers who are distressed about extended delays. As it turns out, The Elder Scrolls VI has also been delayed till 2026. Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the action role-playing franchise’s latest offering was 2020’s The Elder Scrolls: Blades which was just a free-to-play game for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
The highly-anticipated The Elder Scrolls VI however is expected to hit shelves before or around 2026. Considering how The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim debuted in 2011, the Grand Theft Auto and Elder Scrolls fanbase are both in the same boat.
Aging Willem Defoe
Yet another meme on how gamers will age with GTA VI’s release, two different images of actor Willem Defoe are used. The first image captures Defoe in a fresh look, dressed in bright colors in a still from Wes Anderson’s comedy The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.
This is then compared with an aged version of Defoe in Robert Eggers’ psychological horror The Lighthouse that finds him in a more rugged appearance. Defoe’s face is covered by an unkempt beard and there’s a look of gloom in his eyes. This is probably how some GTA players might feel with the passage of time.

Ever since the series’ early releases, GTA has always come under flak by individuals and organizations for its hyperviolent and promiscuous content. Still, one can’t deny how each Grand Theft Auto game’s over-the-top violence has proved to be a major selling point making it stand out in the gaming world.
