Grand Admiral Thrawn actor Lars Mikkelsen teases an Imperial civil war after the events of Ahsoka. Originally created by legendary Star Wars author Timothy Zahn all the way back in 1991, Grand Admiral Thrawn made his live-action debut in Ahsoka. The end of Ahsoka saw Thrawn successfully return to the Star Wars galaxy, where he is expected to proclaim himself as the Heir to the Empire.
Speaking (appropriately enough) to Empire Magazine, Grand Admiral Thrawn actor Lars Mikkelsen has teased it won’t be plain sailing for Thrawn. According to Mikkelsen, Thrawn’s objective is likely to be to “straighten out all the others and tidy up the shop. I could imagine something in terms of a power play within the Empire.” He’s presumably referring to the Imperial Shadow Council, which is full of potential rivals for Thrawn. Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon may have died at the end of The Mandalorian season 3, but there will surely be more Imperial leaders who don’t want to play second fiddle to Thrawn.

Thrawn Has To Focus On The Empire Before The New Republic
Lars Mikkelsen’s prediction makes perfect sense. The brief glimpse of the Imperial Shadow Council in The Mandalorian season 3 strongly hinted several members have lost focus, and are now serving their own personal interests. If that is the case, then Thrawn will need to clear things up before he’s ready to declare war on the New Republic.
The Grand Admiral Thrawn plot is expected to continue in The Mandalorian season 4, with Din Djarin now hired off the books by the New Republic to hunt down Imperials. There had previously been intense speculation this will see him go up against Thrawn and his allies, but Mikkelsen’s comment raises another possibility; that instead, Thrawn will deliberately use Din Djarin as a weapon against his opponents – tricking the Mandalorian bounty hunter into taking down potential rivals. Ahsoka really has set up some thrilling plots.
