Gotham Knights Release Accidentally Revealed As Spring 2022

It’s since been removed but prematurely shared promotional artwork for Gotham Knights suggests that long-awaited adventure will hit store shelves sometime in Spring 2022. Following its announcement at DC FanDome 2020, Gotham Knights boasted a 2021 launch window, which WB Games and developer WB Games Montréal later delayed to 2022. Though Gotham Knights received another trailer at DC FanDome 2021, the new footage merely ended with a nebulous “Step Into the Knight 2022” tag.

Despite the ongoing vagueness about the game’s release, the most recent trailer unleashed a bevy of fresh details about the long-in-development project. The Penguin, for one, seems as though he’ll play an integral role in the overarching plot. In fact, some theories posit the famous rogue, portrayed by Deus Ex’s Elias Toufexis, may actually be of service to the remaining members of the Bat-family. Now accidentally revealed information suggests players can begin exploring this particular mystery and Gotham Knights‘ many others in just a matter of months.

Rokkan NY designer Jin Park, who works on branding for Gotham Knights, recently posted new Gotham Knights promotional art on his official website that bears text reading, “2022 Spring.” Park has since deleted the page in question, yet Twitter user tatlinsky (via Wccftech) managed to capture a screenshot of the art before it was pulled down. The accidentally shared image shows the game’s logo splayed across a wall in what could be a subway station; below the purple Bat logo sits the Spring 2022 release window.

Park’s quick removal of the art could prove the date is accurate, or it might be way off the mark. Either way, there’s no question that such a post went up ahead of time, given that WB Games remains silent about Gotham Knight’s actual launch details. For now, then, the Spring 2022 window shouldn’t be taken at face value.

Set in the wake of Batman’s suspicious death, Gotham Knights stars several of the Dark Knight’s protégés, namely Nightwing, Tim Drake’s Robin, Red Hood, and Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl. The heroes will work together to protect Gotham as a new threat – that’s actually a rather old one – captures the city by its neck and refuses to let go. Interestingly, an ancient clandestine society, the Court of Owls, rests at the narrative’s core, demonstrating that not even Batman himself fully understood Gotham’s many mysteries.

Gotham Knights drops onto PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms on an unspecified date in 2022.
