Gotham City Sirens: Jared Leto Can’t Confirm Involvement

Actor and musician Jared Leto can neither confirm nor deny that he will take on the role of the Joker again in Gotham City Sirens. The upcoming DC Extended Universe film is a spin-off of last year’s Suicide Squad, with Margot Robbie reprising her role as the anti-hero Harley Quinn alongside Catwoman and Poison Ivy (casting TBA).

Not a lot of information has been released about the film so far, but we know that Suicide Squad director David Ayer is still set to take the helm, while Geneva Dworet-Robertson (next year’s Tomb Raider) is handling the screenplay. While we also know that Robbie will be reprising her role as Quinn, there has been speculation on whether or not Leto would reprise his role as her twisted lover, The Joker, for the spin-off.

Now, in a new interview with ET during the premiere of HBO’s new documentary series The Defiant Ones on Thursday, Leto has commented, and dodged the question, of whether or not he will be involved in the upcoming project which is in the early stages of development. Here is what Leto said:

“I have no idea, there are a lot of moving parts with that stuff and we’ll see what happens next.”

Gotham City Sirens: Jared Leto Can’t Confirm Involvement

Considering the film’s main cast, besides Robbie, hasn’t even been announced yet, it’s no surprise that Leto is not giving any clear answers about his involvement with Gotham City Sirens just yet. While it would make certainly make sense for Leto to be involved – seeing as Suicide Squad ended with his character breaking Quinn out of the Belle Reve Penitentiary – the air of uncertainty does make us wonder if Leto will actually show up as The Joker at all. Several of Leto’s Suicide Squad scenes were cut from the theatrical version after being filmed, so he might be a factor to consider here.

Nonetheless, Leto also revealed in the interview that he would love to see his Joker face off against Wonder Woman – after taking the whole crew for his band Thirty Seconds to Mars, which is currently on a summer tour with Muse, to see Patty Jenkins’ hit DCEU film Wonder Woman. Leto raved about the movie during his interview, saying:

“I saw the film. I loved it. I thought it was incredible. They did such a good job. I watched Wonder Woman as a kid, and I really enjoyed it.”

While its unclear about whether or not Leto will be making an appearance in Gotham City Sirens with Harley Quinn, we too would love to his Joker face-off against Diana Prince any day.
