Goku’s Greatest Dragon Ball Victory Nearly Destroyed The Universe

The outcome of arguably Goku’s greatest victory throughout the Dragon Ball saga nearly destroyed the entire universe as the being Goku conquered was believed to be the only one who could stop a much greater threat. Goku has bested nearly everyone he has gone up against, with one of his most impressive victories being over the insanely powerful Jiren in the Tournament of Power. However, long before that multiversal contest, Goku absolutely obliterated a villain that many believed could not be killed, though in doing so, left the universe vulnerable to an even more destructive evil.

In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 49 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, the evil sorcerer Moro is battling Goku, Vegeta, and Majin Buu on the planet New Namek. Knowing that Saiyans cannot survive in the vacuum of space, Moro takes to the cosmos to battle Buu one on one. Buu, however, is not at this point the child-like villain-turned-ally fans know him as, but rather the Lord of Lords, an ancient god who was absorbed by Buu long ago after he originally trapped Moro in prison for ten thousand years. The essence of the Lord of Lords takes over Buu’s body in an attempt to finish what he started, but because of Goku’s previous victory, he fails to do so.

Majin Buu absorbed the Lord of Lords before he fought Goku and the other Z-Fighters in Dragon Ball Z. During the events of Dragon Ball Z, Buu split himself into two separate beings, a good Buu and the evil Kid Buu. When Goku eventually vaporized Kid Buu and achieved where so many of his allies, including Vegeta, failed, he also unwittingly destroyed the godly power of the Lord of Lords. Now, so many years later, the Lord of Lords has a shot at defeating Moro once and for all before the villain becomes too powerful to stop. However, since Goku destroyed his power source, he is unable to defeat Moro and leaves the universe exposed to his cosmic villainy.

Goku’s Greatest Dragon Ball Victory Nearly Destroyed The Universe

Moro is one of the most terrifying villains the Z-Fighters have ever faced. The sorcerer uses magic to consume entire planets, making himself more powerful with every planet he devours. Left unchecked, Moro would succeed in his evil plan of consuming as many planets as he wished while ruling the universe with an iron fist.

While Goku is able to defeat Moro by tapping into the raw angelic power of Autonomous Ultra Instinct, just as he did when fighting Jiren, he and the rest of the universe came dangerously close to losing their lives or falling under Moro’s tyrannical rule. If the Lord of Lords was at his full strength, he could have defeated Moro almost immediately after the villain escaped imprisonment. However, because of Goku’s greatest Dragon Ball victory, the universe was nearly destroyed.
