“Going To Be Even Crazier”: Hellraiser Reboot Sequel Gets Exciting Development Update From Producer

A potential sequel to Hulu’s Hellraiser reboot is actively being discussed, teases a producer. Adapted from the horror novella The Hellbound Heart by British writer Clive Barker, Hellraiser was released in 2022 and served as a reboot of the franchise that began with the 1987 movie of the same name; it is the eleventh Hellraiser movie overall. The recent film followed a young woman recovering from addiction, who comes into possession of a mechanical puzzle box that summons the Cenobites, otherworldly sadomasochistic demons who feed on extreme hedonism.

To date, a Hellraiser reboot sequel has yet to be confirmed officially, but director David Bruckner has been open in the past about his desire to explore the world further. Recently, producer Keith Levine sat down for an interview with ComicBook.com to discuss his latest project, The First Omen, and opened up about the possibility of a Hellraiser 2. He painted a positive picture of a potential sequel to the movie, and noted how Bruckner has been in preliminary talks. Check out Levine’s full comments below:

Yeah. We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design, figuring out how we’re going to pull them off, and we learned so much. And I think moving forward, we love that all that knowledge is sort of banked and that time has been spent. So we think that moving forward and going into another movie is just going to be even crazier and even more awesome. So yeah, that’s something we’re definitely hard at work on, and hope we will have more news soon.

Will A Hellraiser Reboot Sequel Happen?

Prospects Look Good Right Now, But There Are Many Factors At Play

There are a lot of moving parts involved in trying to get any project off the ground, and a Hellraiser sequel will be no different. The 2022 Hellraiser reboot earned mixed reviews from critics and viewers alike, but many believed it to be the best since the original. Hulu was instrumental in the release of the movie by adding it exclusively to their platform, and there is a good chance it could be involved again should a sequel go into development.

Factors impacting the creation of Hellraiser 2 include audience interest, financing, and the schedules of those involved. At this stage nothing has been set in stone, but the positive updates provided by Levine, as well as director Bruckner, confirm there is interest in making a new Hellraiser movie, and its prospects are good. One thing that might help the development of the sequel is Barker’s direct involvement in the reboot, with the horror legend serving as a producer on Hellraiser.

For now, things are merely at the discussion stage, and it is unclear what creative direction any sequel might take if it were to materialize. It could be a direct reboot of 1988’s Hellbound: Hellraiser II, or the creative team might choose to go with a completely unique story. The sequel’s development will depend on being able to formulate a budget, calibrate schedules, develop a compelling script, and secure funding, so for now a Hellraiser sequel is simply a hypothetical scenario.
