Gohan & Goku’s Big Fight Has a Genius Parallel to One of Super’s Best Moments

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR DRAGON BALL SUPER CHAPTER #103

The battle between Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan finally concluded in the Dragon Ball Super manga, and the incredible bout flawlessly mirrored one of the anime’s best moments. After wrapping up the Super Hero arc, Gohan has unlocked a stunning new transformation that fans and his father were curious to see more of. The sparring match between Ultra Instinct and Beast Mode met expectations and rivaled one of the best exchanges from the epic Tournament of Power.

While the manga has continued, the Dragon Ball Super anime has yet to release any new episodes since the Tournament of Power concluded in 2018. The anime’s last arc contained some of the franchise’s best battles, including several against Jiren, who was introduced as a nearly unmovable wall for Goku to overcome. Now, Goku has switched roles to become the wall for Gohan to smash through.

Ultra Instinct has become one of the Dragon Ball franchise’s most entertaining transformations. Goku’s most powerful form allows his body to move faster than his brain with a divine power boost. While in this form, Goku is untouchable to anyone besides the universe’s best fighters, but chapter #103 proved that Gohan is now one of them after landing a solid hit against the divine transformation in an intense exchange that was very similar to Jiren’s first battle against Goku.

Goku’s Strength Represents A Wall For Gohan, Like Jiren Was For Goku

Dragon Ball Super manga written by Akira Toriyama, Illustrated by Toyotarou

Watching Dragon Ball Super‘s anime weekly was one of the most exciting times for Shonen anime fans, especially when Goku unlocked Ultra Instinct for the first time against Jiren. Episode #110 saw a flurry of attacks between the two powerhouses. Universe 11’s strongest warrior was finally forced onto the backfoot while Goku and his Autonomous Ultra Instinct form proved to other tournament participants and the audience that Jiren was not invincible by landing a solid knee strike to his chest. This time, Gohan did the same thing with Ultra Instinct Goku in Jiren’s place.

The origin of Gohan’s new Beast Form was finally explained as a transformation that only the Saiyan-human hybrid could obtain. It proved strong enough to take out the monstrous Cell Max. After charging it up further, it was an impressive match against Goku’s powerful and divine Ultra Instinct form. Much like how Jiren was presented in DBS‘s story, Goku seemed untouchable for a stretch of the battle until Gohan finally connected with a massive punch to his father’s chest. It was a blow that nearly matched the satisfaction of the first solid hit Jiren took in episode #110.

Gohan Finally Got His Time To Shine Against His Father

While the future of the Dragon Ball Super story is currently up in the air after the tragic passing of author Akira Toriyama, Gohan proving himself against Goku’s might would be a fantastic ending for the series. After the franchise returned, DBS helped create a new audience and excite long-time fans with its incredible battles and extremely gratifying character moments. In a series that’s inspired millions to push past their limits to accomplish their goals, Dragon Ball Super‘s brilliant scene with Gohan and Goku ranks among the franchise’s best moments and will likely stick with readers for years.
