Godzilla vs Kong: Two New Titans Revealed In MonsterVerse

Graphic novels that tie in to Godzilla vs. Kong have introduced two brand-new MonsterVerse Titans: Camazotz and Na Kika. These creatures encountered Godzilla and Kong ahead of their big showdown in the fourth installment in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Legendary has released two prequel graphic novels titled Godzilla: Dominion and Kingdom Kong.

The books explore what the two rival alphas were up to prior to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. In Godzilla’s story, he had to travel around the planet to ensure that the Titans awakened by Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters stayed out of trouble. As for Kong and Monarch, they were faced with one of the storms that Ghidorah created in his attempt to terraform the planet. Apparently, this is what forced Monarch to build the containment facility shown at the beginning of the movie.

Godzilla and Kong’s respective adventures treated readers to two new Titans. Kingdom Kong saw the King of Skull Island defend his home from Camazotz, a nocturnal, bat-like Titan whose coming was foretold by a prophecy in the Hollow Earth tunnels about a “darkness” that would “swallow the world.” Leading a massive army of small flying monsters, Camazotz emerged from Skull Island’s entry point to challenge Kong. The two fought for a while, with Camazotz even attempting to drink Kong’s blood. However, Kong prevailed in the end and killed his attacker. Afterward, it was stated by Dr. Houston Brooks that Camazotz intended to beat Kong and gain alpha status.

In Dominion, Godzilla came across Na Kika, a giant blue-and-purple octopus monster who got caught in a giant net deployed by a group of Titan-hunting humans. After seeing what was going on, Godzilla intervened and freed Na Kika. More about this monster was revealed in the Godzilla vs. Kong novelization, which explained the enormous cephalopod possesses the unusual ability to change its sex at will. Also, a retcon in the story confirmed that he was “the Kraken”, a mysterious creature briefly mentioned in the book version of King of the Monsters. Like Behemoth, Methuselah, Scylla, and King of the Monsters’ 11 missing Titans, Camazotz and Na Kika are connected by their names to creatures from mythology. Camazotz is a “death bat” associated with ancient Mayan religion, while Na Kika is a Polynesian octopus god.

Godzilla vs. Kong may have been light on giant monsters, but the Titans featured in the graphic novels help illustrate how packed the MonsterVerse is with these creatures. Thanks to Ghidorah’s wide-reaching call and expeditions into the Hollow Earth, there’s no telling how many new Titans could emerge in the near future. Godzilla vs. Kong hinted at hundreds of them being in the world. Godzilla called the Titans back into hibernation at the end of Dominion, but a new disaster could always force them to emerge again.
