Godzilla Just Had The Best Weekend Ever

Godzilla Just Had The Best Weekend Ever

The Godzilla series is one of the longest-running franchises of all time, but it just had the best weekend ever decades after it started. The first Godzilla movie was released in 1954, with the political monster film spawning a massive franchise that has extended into dozens of movies, spin-offs, TV shows, comics, toys, and more. While plenty of good Godzilla stuff releases quite frequently, Godzilla just had the best weekend it has ever had due to the sheer amount of Godzilla media that was released.

Godzilla has always been a big franchise since it started, with a plethora of monster movies adding to the franchise in the decades following its release. However, Godzilla has been bigger than ever since 2014’s Godzilla, which spawned the MonsterVerse. The MonsterVerse is a cinematic universe focused on Godzilla as well as other classic Toho monsters, bringing them back into the limelight decades after they were released. However, 2014 still wasn’t the peak of the Godzilla franchise, as the first weekend of December 2023 was the best that the franchise has ever had.

The Weekend Featured 3 Different Godzilla Projects In Exciting Ways

Godzilla Just Had The Best Weekend Ever

The first weekend of December 2023 just featured three different Godzilla projects in exciting ways, setting up the best weekend that the franchise has ever had. The biggest of these is the release of the film Godzilla Minus One, the newest big-budget Japanese Godzilla film. Godzilla Minus One has been a surprisingly big hit worldwide, with its box office and critical successes making headlines since the film was released. However, this isn’t the only Godzilla project that came out this weekend.

The MonsterVerse also had some pretty big news this weekend, including a new episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a series that follows two groups of people in different time periods as they investigate the secretive Monarch organization, the paramilitary group that is heavily involved with Godzilla and several other Titans. On top of all that, the first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was released, showing off the exciting new team-up movie.

Godzilla x Kong, Godzilla Minus One & Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters All Present Different Kinds Of Godzilla Stories

While this may seem like a lot of Godzilla for one weekend, what’s cool is that all three of these projects present different kinds of Godzilla stories. From the very beginning, Godzilla was a social commentary about the dangers of nuclear war. Godzilla Minus One brings this type of Godzilla story back, with character-focused politics being at the forefront of the film.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is more like the later Godzilla films, with it mostly focusing on the silly mindless action of different monsters fighting. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a third type of Godzilla story, with it focusing on the horror of being a human living in a world infested with monsters. While plenty of Godzilla projects were released this weekend, they all have qualities that make them unique.
