Godzilla Explains the 3 Types of Titan (& Why Godzilla Is the Deadliest)

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Godzilla: The War for Humanity #2 Out of all the Titans introduced in Godzilla lore, the titular King of the Monsters himself is the most powerful one. While that seems like a given, especially considering his widely-known moniker, one of the most recent Godzilla stories actually delves into why he’s the strongest. It’s revealed that there are actually 3 distinct types of kaiju in the world, despite the countless variations among them, and Godzilla is practically in a caste of his own.

Modern fans have been given a plethora of Godzilla content recently, with each one depicting Godzilla in basically the same light. From the MonsterVerse declaring Godzilla the King of the Monsters to comics such as Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons confirming Godzilla’s relevance and prevalence in human history, Godzilla is and has always been the alpha Titan of Earth, and every iteration of his fictional universe makes that abundantly clear. In another ongoing Godzilla comic series, his established station is explained in a totally new way. Previously, Godzilla is shown to be the King of the Monsters because he’s physically tougher than the other kaiju. But now, it’s revealed that Godzilla is really the King not just because he’s the most powerful, but because he’s totally unpredictable.

Godzilla Doesn’t Follow Patterns Like Other Kaiju (& He’s Not Alone)

Godzilla Explains the 3 Types of Titan (& Why Godzilla Is the Deadliest)

In Godzilla: The War for Humanity #2 by Andrew MacLean and Jake Smith, a new monster has popped up seemingly out of nowhere: Zoospora. This kaiju isn’t animalistic in nature, but is instead something more akin to fungus. Zoospora abducts kaiju all over the world, infects them with its toxins, and then takes control of their minds. It’s explained that Zoospora is the result of Planet Earth itself attempting to rid its surface of humanity, and that even Godzilla fears its wrath (albeit only in regard to his son). During humanity’s efforts to fight back against Zoospora, a small strike force consisting of kaiju experts outlines the 3 different types of Titans on the Earth, as that helped them to better understand what they were dealing with. According to this comic, the 3 types are: those who migrate on a set pattern, those who hibernate in a safe location, and those who are totally unpredictable. Until Zoospora hit the scene, Godzilla was the only monster in that last caste.

The fact that Godzilla doesn’t follow the natural habits of other kaiju gives him an inherent advantage against them, and it also displays a level of cognisance the other, more primal TItans don’t exhibit. This is why Godzilla is the King of the Monsters, and why Zoospora is perhaps the greatest villain Godzilla’s ever had to face. Zoospora is equally unpredictable, just as physically imposing (if not more so), and has the ability to bend the lesser kaiju to its will. Godzilla ruled over the Titans through a mix of intimidation and respect, while Zoospora does so through a mysterious mind-controling toxin. Their upcoming conflict will be one to remember, with the fact that they’re the same type of Titan (based on the parameters set in this comic) establishing that they should be evenly matched.

The number of similarities between these two monsters is fascinating, but what’s probably the most interesting is that they are the only two who don’t follow specific patterns, and they’ve both used that to their advantage against all other Titans on Earth. While having a monster on Godzilla’s level is truly epic, Godzilla will assuredly be back to being the only one upon his inevitable victory, proving yet again why he’s the King of the Monsters.
