God Of War Ragnarök’s Guardian Shield Fan Theory Is Bad News For Kratos

God Of War Ragnarök’s Guardian Shield Fan Theory Is Bad News For Kratos

An eagle-eyed God of War Ragnarok fan has just come up with an interesting theory regarding Kratos’s trusty Guardian Shield, one that could prove troublesome for the Ghost of Sparta should it be true. God of War Ragnarok is only a few months away, meaning that fans are speculating on the many twists and turns this final chapter of Kratos and Atreus’s journey across the Nine Realms of Asgard will take. Each new God of War Ragnarok trailer provides more clues to the puzzle, giving these excited fans their first good looks at the God of War incarnations of Thor and Odin in addition to the many weapons and attacks Kratos will use to fend them off in the upcoming action title. Many of these weapons are returning from God of War (2018), such as the icy Leviathan Axe and the fabled Blades of Chaos that once carved a bloody path of vengeance through the Gods of Ancient Greece in the original God of War trilogy. While these tools provide Kratos with a good offense, his latest journey through the Nine Realms has taught players that the Ghost of Sparta also values an equal defense in his older years, as he is seldom seen without a mighty shield to protect himself against the deadliest monsters and deities the Nine Realms has to offer. God of War‘s retractable Guardian Shield also carries a deep emotional significance for Kratos, as it was a gift from his late wife Faye on the anniversary of the night they first met.Related: God Of War Ragnarök Will Fix Its Predecessor’s Biggest IssueTwitter user Farore5 recently shared a theory about God of War Ragnarok, namely how Kratos will lose his trusted Guardian Shield during his battle against Thor – a confrontation that was hinted at in God of War (2018)’s secret ending. Farore5 notes that the clip of Kratos and Thor battling each other from the most recent God of War Ragnarok trailer is the only time the Ghost of Sparta can be seen with his original Guardian Shield, as the rest of the footage sees him using the Dauntless and Stonewall shields featured in previous action-packed God of War Ragnarok gameplay. Farore5 also hopes that Kratos can get his old shield fixed at some point in Ragnarok given its ties to his beloved Faye, and speculates that he will seek out the Dwarven brothers Brok and Sindri to help with the repairs.

Kratos Could Lose His Guardian Shield In God Of War Ragnarok

Kratos is going to need all the tools and weapons at his disposal in God of War Ragnarok, as the upcoming sequel will take him and Atreus to all Nine Realms and pit them against many powerful new foes – such as the lizard-like Grims that threaten the pair as they travel to the Dwarven homeland of Svartalfheim. To combat these new forces, Kratos will utilize two different shield types in God of War Ragnarok, one that gives him access to a brutal counterattack and another that lets him unleash a powerful shockwave after blocking enough attacks.

These are both interesting and useful abilities to have on hand while exploring God of War Ragnarok‘s new realms, but Kratos would probably argue that the best shield in his arsenal is the one his late wife gifted to him in honor of the day they first fell in love. Losing this treasured Guardian Shield in a heated battle against Thor would be an emotional gut punch to both Kratos and players, so hopefully he can get it repaired in short order when God of War Ragnarok launches this November.
