A talented God of War fan has forged an impressive replica of Thor’s legendary Mjolnir hammer in anticipation of God of War Ragnarok. 2018’s God of War reboot represented a major shift in the story and setting of Sony Santa Monica’s mythical action series, as Kratos left the ruins of ancient Greece to pursue a quiet life with his son Atreus amid the Nine Realms of Nordic mythology. This peace sadly wouldn’t last, and soon father and son find themselves at odds with the gods of Asgard – including a more brutish and villainous version of Thor.
Thor would only appear in a brief dream sequence at the very end of God of War (2018) that teases a confrontation between Kratos and the Thunder God in the upcoming sequel. During this tense and ominous moment, players caught a glimpse of Thor’s iconic hammer Mjolnir, which is shown to be very different than the versions of the weapon that mainstream audiences are familiar with in both design and backstory. The origins of Mjolnir have varied from source to source, but God of War’s take on the legendary hammer was forged by Brok and Sindri, the Huldra Brothers who also crafted Kratos’s trusty Leviathan Axe. As fans prepare for the seemingly enviable battle between Kratos and Thor in the upcoming God of War Ragnarok, some are speculating that the Ghost of Sparta will wield Mjolnir himself at one point.
In the meantime, Reddit user SLUG_927 recently showed off their own replica version of God of War’s Mjolnir in a series of photos posted to r/GodOfWar (via Game Rant). This fanmade version of Mjolnir illustrates just how different the hammer is from the more mainstream version found in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with majestic gold trim along the bottom and Nordic runes engraved on the front. SLUG_927 notes that they’ve built custom versions of other popular God of War weapons like Kratos’ signature Blades of Chaos and a few different iterations of God of War’s Leviathan Axe. They share many fans’ hopes that players will get to unleash Mjolnir’s power for themselves in God of War Ragnarok.

Despite rumors that God of War Ragnarok will be delayed until 2023, the development team at Sony Santa Monica insists that the game will release later this year as previously promised. God of War Creative Director Cory Barlog lent his support to the team in charge of God of War Ragnarok during a social media message in honor of God of War (2018)’s fourth anniversary a few weeks ago, though he noted that the game isn’t ready to be shown in any further detail at this time.
Fans are anxious to play through Kratos’s Nordic finale in God of War Ragnarok, especially if it means getting the chance to wield iconic weapons like Thor’s Mjolnir on top of Kratos’s already impressive arsenal. SLUG_927’s similarly-impressive fanmade prop shows off God of War‘s version of Mjolnir in all its regal splendor, providing what could be one of the best looks at this legendary hammer so far as players prepare for God of War Ragnarok’s scheduled launch later this year.
