Glenn Close shows off an incredible 101 Dalmatians Cruella de Vil costume she made herself. Disney’s 1961 animated One Hundred and One Dalmatians quickly became a fan favorite upon its release. Since then, the film has led to multiple sequels and spin-offs, including the 1996 and 2000 live-action movies, entitled 101 Dalmatians and 102 Dalmatians, respectively.
Ever since Cruella de Vil’s appearance in One Hundred and One Dalmatians, the wealthy heiress has become infamous as one of Disney’s most iconic villains. While she’s been played and voiced by a myriad of actresses throughout the years, Cruella has thus far been portrayed as undeniably evil. Her central goal revolves around kidnapping dalmatian puppies, with the intent to skin them for their coats.
Close, who appeared as a live-action Cruella in 101 Dalmatians and 102 Dalmatians, has shared a stunning, homemade Cruella de Vil costume on Instagram. In her post, Close is dressed to the nines as Cruella: She wears a black and white wig, a leopard print scarf, a black coat, and red gloves with long black nails. Close’s portrayal of Cruella toed the line between being entertaining and downright terrifying. That being said, the forthcoming Cruella film is expected to show the villain in a somewhat different light. Emma Stone is set to play a much younger Cruella de Vil, back when she is still an aspiring fashion designer named Estella. After the evil Baroness steals a locket that belonged to Estella’s deceased mother, the designer vows to do whatever it takes to get the necklace back. As such, Cruella seems primed to not only tell Cruella de Vil’s origin story, but to present a much more human side of the villain. At its core, this is certainly an intriguing prospect, especially considering how Cruella might present a different perspective on the woman who’s long been seen as evil incarnate.
While many actresses have and will portray Cruella de Vil, Close will forever be remembered for her haughty, chilling interpretation of the heiress. Although Close is one of the greatest stars in Hollywood, it’s clear that she still has a soft spot for 101 Dalmatians. As a result, her homemade costume not only raises the bar for Halloween, but is a fun reminder of one of the greatest portrayals of Cruella de Vil that audiences have ever seen.
