Glen Powell’s New Stephen King Movie Remake Just Beat 4 Other Movies As His Most Exciting Project

Glen Powell’s New Stephen King Movie Remake Just Beat 4 Other Movies As His Most Exciting Project

Paramount Pictures announced they are producing a remake of The Running Man with Glen Powell as the star, making it the actor’s most highly-anticipated project despite his already-exciting current lineup of future movies. The 1987 dystopian action film, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and written by Steven E. de Souza, was loosely based on the Stephen King book of the same name and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leading man — Captain Benjamin “Ben” Richards. The Running Man failed to impress at the box office, only grossing $38 million against a $27 million budget, and critics gave the movie mixed reviews.

Given its average outing in theaters and beyond, Paramount Pictures seemingly hopes to improve upon the 1987 adaptation of King’s novel with a remake (and Powell taking over Schwarzenegger’s role). The Running Man takes place in a dystopian version of the United States in 2025 (it’s best to remember that King’s book was published in 1982). While the economy is falling apart at its seams and chaos ensues everywhere, Ben Richards, played by Powell, signs up to star in a reality game show titled The Running Man, which features contestants attempting to avoid death by hitmen to win money.

Glen Powell’s Running Man Remake Is More Exciting Than His Other Upcoming Movies

Powell’s Other Future Projects Include Twisters and Hit Man

Although not much is known about the Running Man remake, the movie is undoubtedly Glen Powell’s most compelling upcoming project, based on its source material. Of course, any Stephen King story is exciting and will always be highly anticipated by audiences. However, the remake is rousing because of its unique and futuristic tale, and it’ll be interesting to see how the story changes to fit with modern times. Consequently, Powell’s other future films, like Twisters, Hit Man, a reunion with Sydney Sweeney after Anyone But You, and a rumored Top Gun 3, can’t hold a candle to The Running Man.

Plus, Powell has not headlined a serious action film — one that doesn’t delve into comedy or romance. But there’s no doubt that he will thrive in the role, which makes his involvement in the new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel even more thrilling. Unfortunately, The Running Man doesn’t have a release date (or a filming date), so it might be a while before fans see Powell in action.

Twister had Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt; Top Gun starred Tom Cruise; and The Running Man featured Arnold Schwarzenegger. Powell is slowly but surely taking over their spots and cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, especially after appearing in Paramount’s remake of The Running Man.
