Glass Onion’s Biggest Unanswered Questions & Headscratchers

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. With all its plot twists and flashback scenes, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery wraps things up nicely when the story is revealed as the audience gets an insight into the life of Miles Bron and his friends at his exclusive party on his private island in Greece; however, Glass Onion leaves its audience with some unanswered questions at the end of the movie. Although some of them may be only details that add to the dynamic of the movie and its characters, there are some important questions viewers may be looking to get answers to after watching Glass Onion.

Glass Onion shocks its audience and characters halfway through the film by revealing that Andi is none other than her twin sister Helen Brand who has hired detective Benoit Blanc to investigate her sister’s murder and is posing as Andi to uncover the identity of the killer, successfully delivering a key twist in Glass Onion. Although cleverly executed, the twists and the events that precede it, leading to the reveal of Miles as the murderer, cause some unanswered questions in Glass Onion that may leave its viewer wondering at the end of the film.

Did Miles And The Disrupters Know About Andi’s Twin?

Glass Onion’s Biggest Unanswered Questions & Headscratchers

Through Glass Onion, viewers learn about the Disrupters and their relationship with Andi. Having such a strong bond with the Disrupters and particularly with Miles, who she was in a relationship with, it sounds plausible that they would have known that Andi had a twin sister. This seems to be confirmed when, upon learning the truth about Helen at the end of Glass Onion, Birdie herself mentioned that Andi did mention having a sister. Although he is definitely not the brightest, Miles, in particular, should have put two and two together if he did know Andi has a sister when he saw the woman he murdered show up at his party.

Why Did Miles Invite Andi To His Party?

Miles inside the Glass Onion

Miles being the killer in Glass Onion comes as a shocking revelation for the characters as much as for the audience. However, it also raises some questions, namely the question of why Miles would invite Andi to his party with the complicated invite system almost all the characters received if he had killed her. And, more importantly, even if he had sent out the boxes before he committed the murder, many may wonder why exactly Miles would invite Andi to his private island at all if the two had lost contact, and she was not on good terms with any of the Disrupters.

Where Did The Gun Go?

Duke on his phone in Glass Onion

Duke’s gun is used as a comic relief joke throughout the first half of Glass Onion. However, it becomes of utmost significance when it disappears from Duke’s crotch belt. Viewers later learn that Miles took the gun after causing Duke’s death, as the latter finds out about Andi’s death and realizes Miles killed her at the end of Glass Onion. However, after Miles fires the gun at Helen, who he believes to be Andi, the gun disappears once again, never to be found again or spoken of and essentially remaining unaccounted for by the end of the movie.

Birdie’s Knife Disappearing

Duke’s gun is not the only weapon that is unspoken for at the end of Glass Onion. As all the lights turn off, Blanc notices that the biggest kitchen knife has been taken by somebody. As the night replays during the film, the audience can see Birdie is holding the kitchen knife in one of the shots, however, she seems to have gotten rid of it soon after. It is not clear why she has the knife in the first place and even if it can be assumed that it was for protection, there is no explanation regarding how and why she got rid of it.

Who Is Derol?

Glass Onion delivers many celebrity jokes and references during the whole film. However, there is one character that seems not to belong to the lavish world of money and fame: Derol, a stoner who becomes one of the running jokes of the film. He seems to randomly pop up throughout the movie as it is said that he too lives on the island in Miles’ mansion. However, it is not clear how Derol ended up on the island at all or how he knows Miles so well, and is trusted by the villain as well, to be invited to live, presumably for free, on his island.

How Much Does Claire’s Husband Know?

Glass Onion Kathryn Hahn

Claire’s husband, Devon Debella, only makes an appearance in the opening scene of Glass Onion. Given how Claire essentially owes her entire political career to him, the question of how much Devon knows about Miles and their project with Klear seems obvious. The positively-reviewed Glass Onion does not really explain Devon’s involvement with Miles and his company and one may assume that Claire kept him in the dark for this whole time. This may explain why he does not go with Claire to Miles’ island when other members of the group have brought other people along.

Did Miles’ Butler Disappear?

At the beginning of Glass Onion, Miles explained that his island and his mansions are self-sufficient; therefore, nobody but his guests will be on the island. However, the audience did see somebody else earlier in the film. As the main characters all arrive in Greece, they are greeted by somebody who seems to be Miles’ butler who invites them to board a private boat to reach Miles’ island. He never appears again in Glass Onion, so it is safe to assume he may have left after ensuring all the guests arrived safely at Miles’ mansion, although this is never addressed.

How Did Miles Stage The Blackout?

Filmed in Greece, Glass Onion showcases beautiful locations. Another impressive location of the film is Miles’ glass mansion, which is highly technological and designed to activate certain commands set up by Miles himself. For example, Miles stages a blackout during the dinner party, in order to be able to move freely and unseen in the house as all the lights go off. However, it is not clear how Miles was able to stage the blackout since it is later revealed that he got the idea from a previous discussion with Blanc and would have had little time to set everything up.

What Were Those Covid Shots At The Beginning?

Dave Bautista as Duke and Madelyn Cline as Whiskey riding a motorcycle in Glass Onion

At the beginning of Glass Onion, the protagonists all meet in Greece, before heading to Miles’ private island. Before they can enter the private boat that will transport them to the island, they are given some mysterious shots by Miles’ butler. Nobody in Glass Onion except Benoit Blanc seems to question it and even when the detective asks about it, he receives no explanation at all. They all had to receive these shots in order to get to the island and they seem to protect them from Covid, or ensure nobody is infected, as all the characters can get rid of their masks after receiving the shots.

Did Serena Williams Witness Everything?

During the film, Blanc and Helen discuss their murder scene in the gym, believing to be alone. During their talk, however, what looked like a picture of Serena Williams comes to life, revealing that it is not a photo but the actual Serena Williams who is seemingly in constant video-call, in case somebody wants to train with her, delivering one of the many cameos in Glass Onion. This prompts the question of how much the athlete has witnessed in the whole Glass Onion plot, as audiences may wonder if she heard everything about the murder and its suspects and decided not to act on it.
