Gilmore Girls Revival First Look Images Released

Where Gilmore Girls leads, we will follow – and we will be following the beloved mother/daughter dramedy to Netflix when the revival premieres. Netflix officially picked up the return to Gilmore Girls earlier this year after rumors of the project were reported late in 2015. The news came only a few months after Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino insisted there was no revival planned despite the call from fans ever since the controversial series finale in 2007.

Gilmore Girls follows the lives of Lorelei Gilmore (played by Lauren Graham) and her daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) as they navigate through their small town of Stars Hollow – with all its colorful characters – as well as the Connecticut society of Lorelei’s parents, Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Herrmann). Now, the first images from the Gilmore Girls revival have arrived, leading fans back to Stars Hollow.

EW released the images, which depict Graham and Bledel back in their iconic roles as Lorelei and Rory, as well as co-stars Bishop and Scott Patterson as diner owner Luke Danes. Sally Struthers can also be seen in the photos, returning as the Gilmores’ Stars Hollow neighbor, Babette Dell. Check out the Gilmore Girls revival photos:

The majority of the main Gilmore Girls cast is returning for the revival with the notable exceptions of Melissa McCarthy, who has confirmed she won’t be reprising her role as Sookie St. James [Update: McCarthy WILL return as Sookie! Details here.], and Herrmann as Richard due to the actor’s passing in 2014. Other cast members returning include Jared Padalecki as Dean Forester, Milo Ventimiglia as Jess Mariano, Matt Czuchry as Logan Huntzberger, Liza Weil as Paris Geller, Keiko Agena as Lane Kim, David Sutcliffe as Christopher Hayden, Yanic Truesdale as Michel Gerard, and Sean Gunn as Kirk Gleason.

Although the images don’t offer much in the way of what to expect from the Gilmore Girls revival, they do confirm certain aspects of the characters – such as Luke and Lorelei’s continued relationship as well as Rory’s career as a teacher. Plus, with the local residents holding auditions for Stars Hollow The Musical, it seems the small town antics of Gilmore Girls will return for the revival as well. All these factors may help to generate buzz among fans of Gilmore Girls as they await the revival, which doesn’t have a release date yet.

However, Netflix’s Gilmore Girls will be following a different format than the show during its 7-season run. Rather than 22-episode seasons, the Gilmore Girls revival will be split into four 90-minute movies, with each reportedly following a different season of the year: spring, summer, fall, and winter. So, the new iteration isn’t exactly the Gilmore Girls fans will remember, but these first images from the revival seem to prove the cast – and perhaps creator Sherman-Palladino – have easily fallen back into their iconic and beloved roles.

Screen Rant will keep you updated on the Gilmore Girls revival as more information is released.
