While Rory and Lorelai are the funny and clever heart of Gilmore Girls, there are many other main characters who have made a positive impression on fans. Doyle
Reddit user lightwoodorchestra considers Doyle to be an underrated character and Reddit user personhee replied, “Doyle was hilarious! I was actually pretty upset that he and Paris ended up divorced in the revival.”
Fans enjoy Paris and Doyle’s Gilmore Girls relationship and their love for each other is a strong part of the series, which is why it’s devastating when they split up in A Year In The Life. Since Doyle is just as smart as Paris and they are both ambitious, it’s no wonder that viewers hope that if there are more episodes of the revival, then this couple will get back together.
Gil
According to several fans on Reddit, Gil is underrated, with Reddit user BestFriendOfTheCourt writing “Quirky, funny but always had good intent.” Reddit user personhee said he follows his musical dreams and was “able to take care of his family sufficiently.”
When Lane becomes part of her band Hep Alien, the show focuses on her love interests Dave and Zack. While that decision makes sense since it’s sweet and moving watching Lane fall in love, many fans also appreciate Gil. He’s a well-drawn character who enjoys his life and loves his family.
Brad
Besides fighting and competing with Paris, Rory does interact with some other Chilton classmates, including Brad, who leaves for a while to pursue musical theater. Reddit user saltedbatwings suggested Brad as an underrated character, explaining, “I thought he was hilarious and I wish he had been in more episodes.”
Many of Brad’s scenes are funny since he’s terrified of Paris, but when he comes back from starring in Into The Woods, he lets her know that he’s stronger and more confident now. Paris still wants to make his life a living nightmare, but seeing Brad stand up to his former enemy is heartwarming.
Jackson
Gilmore Girls relate to Jackson and Sookie and it’s always entertaining when they bicker and try to get used to their serious relationship.
Reddit user merlemi loves Jackson because he’s “the perfect mix between nice and sarcastic.” It’s definitely true that when fans talk about the best love interests on this show, they focus on Luke and the three partners who Rory falls for, and there’s a lot to adore about Jackson. Tom

Morey
Babette and Morey are an adorable couple who aren’t part of many storylines, but fans get to know them in the season 1 episode “Cinnamon’s Wake” when their beloved cat passes away.

Marty
Of all of Rory’s best Yale moments on Gilmore Girls, she shares a nice friendship with Marty, at least until she finds out about his girlfriend Lucy and Marty lies about knowing her.
One Redditor said they enjoy watching Marty and said, “Even with what they did to his character, I still really liked him and wish he was a bigger part in Rory’s college life.” It’s true that Marty’s presence on the show becomes super awkward, but at the start of his character arc, he’s great. Headmaster Charleston
Fans understand why Rory is intimated by Chilton’s headmaster from the start, as he makes a strong case for this being a terrifying and demanding school. Charleston moves the story along quite a few times, whether asking Rory to get more involved at school or inviting her back in the revival. It’s nice to see Rory be confident and secure when talking to him in A Year In The Life, realizing that he’s not so scary after all.
Brian
While Hep Alien includes Lane’s love interests Dave and Zack, Brian is another amazing band member who deserves credit and attention. Reddit user MiaWinter considers this character underrated, writing, “I loved Brian, especially his cute relationship with Kyon at the end. His banter with Zach was always hilarious, too.”
Brian is charming and awkward, especially when he has to get used to Lane and Zack dating and realizes that the entire dynamic has now changed in their house. Brian might not be the most popular character but his scenes are always endearing.
Madeline
Once Rory joins her classmates at Chilton, she quickly learns that Paris is scary but has good friends, Madeline and Louise, who are a bit friendlier but still fairly intimidating.
Reddit user isthisclever likes Madeline and wrote that she gets Bs at Chilton so she must be smarter than she acts. The fan considers her underrated and wrote, “she’s just not a mean-spirited person and sticks by her friends (at least Louise), even if they’re being mean, because they’re bonded.” Madeline does seem kinder than her two pals, and she’s a lot of fun to watch as she’s witty and funny.
