Gilmore Girls: 10 Best Moments From Scott Patterson’s Podcast

Fans loved watching actor Scott Patterson portray diner owner Luke Danes in every season of Gilmore Girls, and now the actor has a podcast recapping each episode of the show. Patterson explained that he has never watched an episode. The iHeart Radio podcast, called “I Am All In,” will drop every Monday and feature discussions of a Gilmore Girls episode along with interviews of actors who appeared on the series.

When talking about a beloved series with such a big fanbase, there’s going to be tons to talk about on this podcast, and it already has many positive reviews. What are some of the greatest moments and revelations from the podcast that have come out so far?

Sean Gunn Shared What It Was Like Playing Kirk

Gilmore Girls: 10 Best Moments From Scott Patterson’s Podcast

The third podcast episode, “Interesting Hat (S1, E3 “Kill Me Now”)” features an interview with Sean Gunn, who played Kirk Gleason on the series. He said he didn’t anticipate that Gilmore Girls would be the TV series that he’s most recognized for.

Gunn was surprised when Gilmore Girls wanted him to come back and do more episodes. He was in the show early on as “Mick”, the guy who installed Lorelai’s DSL internet, and then he returned as Kirk, the character who fans love for having many various jobs. Gunn said that he thought, “This gag is gonna wear thin,” and he wasn’t sure that he would remain on the show beyond the first season. Of course, he remained a beloved Stars Hollow character.

Yanic Truesdale Shared His Favorite Line

Yanic Truesdale, who played Michel Gerard, was interviewed in the podcast’s first episode and it was great hearing about his experience on the series.

When asked what his favorite Gilmore Girls line is, Truesdale said he loved when a guest at the inn asked Michel where they can find the best antiques and he replied, “At your house, I’d guess.” This exchange is very nostalgic for fans, who love Michel’s snarky quotes.

Patterson Answered A Listener Question About The Food

If Gilmore Girls fans could agree on their absolute favorite part of the show, many would say Luke’s Diner. It seemed like such a cozy place to eat some delicious food and have some amazing coffee, and the Stars Hollow residents loved it there, especially Rory and Lorelai.

Scott Patterson answered a listener question about whether the food at Luke’s was real. He said that yes, it was real, but it was old. He explained that it would take eight days to shoot an episode and it would still be the same food, so no one really wanted to eat it.

Luke Wasn’t A Main Character At First

Scott Patterson talked about how Luke wasn’t a main character at first. He said that when he got the part, he loved the script and the character. He described the people in Stars Hollow as “happy, fluffy, wonderful characters” and said he thought Luke could be an “anchor.”

Fans are definitely glad that Luke became a regular and that viewers witnessed his slow-burn romance with Lorelai. The show would have felt very different if Luke had only appeared at the beginning or in a few episodes.

Rose Abdoo Shared A Sweet, Funny Story

Sally Struthers, who played Lorelai’s neighbor Babette, and Rose Abdoo, who played the town mechanic Gypsy, were interviewed on the second podcast episode and they talked about how much they enjoyed their experience on Gilmore Girls. Abdoo also appeared in the revival A Year In The Life as Emily’s housekeeper, Berta.

When asked about a favorite memory from being on the set, Abdoo said that they were filming a town hall meeting scene and Struthers asked if Abdoo wanted to see the driver’s license for her dog. This was a sweet and funny moment, one of the best from the podcast so far.

Patterson Asked Struthers And Abdoo How They Take Their Coffee

Rory and Lorelai’s relationship is at the show’s core and that includes their love of coffee. They talk about it in what is probably every episode and they definitely consume a lot of it.

Of course, Patterson had to bring up coffee on his podcast, and he asked Abdoo and Struthers how they drink their coffee. Struthers replied with cream and chocolate milk, and Abdoo said that she drinks black with sugar. It looks like this will be a recurring question on the podcast as fans would love to know how each guest takes their caffeine.

Team Jess, Dean, Or Logan?

Rory and Lorelai had several romantic partners during the show’s run, and people often ask the actors whether they think that Rory should have ended up with Jess, Dean, or Logan. It’s a big question, especially since Rory and Logan had an affair in the revival.

Patterson asked Struthers and Abdoo which one of Rory’s boyfriends they like the most, and this was a great moment on the podcast, as everyone has an opinion. Struthers is Team Jess and Abdoo is Team Dean.

The Key Set Costumer Shared How Close She Was With Edward Herrmann

In the fourth episode, “Interesting Hat Part 2 (S1, E3 “Kill Me Now”),” Patterson interviewed Valerie Campbell, who was the Key Set Costumer on the show.

Campbell said that she was close with Edward Herrmann. She also said that her best memory of the revival was seeing the huge painting of Richard Gilmore that was hanging in Emily’s house. She said that she got emotional and that they got together for years after Gilmore Girls. That was very emotional for fans too, as it was so sad to watch the family mourn Richard.

Why Patterson Never Watched The Show

While Luke is said to be a grump, many scenes prove he’s a kind, decent guy, and so when Scott Patterson announced that he would be putting out a podcast, fans were thrilled.

Fans are curious about why Patterson has never seen an episode of Gilmore Girls until now. He explained that working on the show was very intense as the actors had so much fast-paced dialogue to learn and keep track of, and he said that he didn’t have time while filming.

Patterson Asked Gunn How He Can Explain Kirk

When asked how he could explain Kirk, Sean Gunn said that he read an article in The Atlantic that said Kirk is a “man child.”

Gunn said, “I always looked at him as being a guy who obeyed the rules at all costs, but would also duck them when necessary.” He said, “When you think of Kirk as a nine-year-old in a grown man’s body, it all adds up.” That’s a great description and it’s exactly why fans love him so much.
