Giant Alligator Loki Made Out Of Bread By Bakery

Giant Alligator Loki Made Out Of Bread By Bakery

A bakery in Benicia, California made a giant Alligator Loki entirely out of bread. The popular variant of the Norse God of Mischief appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series Loki, which saw Tom Hiddleston reprise his now-iconic role. The show’s six-episode season 1 released in June and July of this year.

In Loki, a version of the titular character that escaped from captivity too early in Avengers: Endgame discovers the existence of the Time Variance Authority, which steps in to correct (that is, erase) moments in history that deviate from the pre-established timeline. As he discovers more about the TVA, he learns that the being in the universe that most frequently creates variants is himself, and when he travels to the Void where “pruned” variants are sent, he discovers a community of Lokis living in a cycle of constant backstabbing. Among these Loki variants is a literal alligator, who, despite his costume, might not actually be who he claims to be.

That potential for deception hasn’t stopped Marvel fans from embracing the character, though, and My Modern Met reports the latest example of Alligator Loki love comes from the One House Bakery. Co-owner Hannalee Pervan and her mother were inspired by Loki to make the character entirely out of bread, a version they’ve dubbed “Dough-ki.” The sculpture serves as the bakery’s entry into Benicia’s 2021 Downtown Scarecrow Contest, which sees local businesses craft their interpretation of a scarecrow for locals, who vote on their favorites.

As one can imagine, making a giant Alligator Loki out of bread is no easy feat, and the recently finished process started all the way back in August. Getting the texture right required using leather tools, and Pervan says she and her mother had to adjust the dough’s consistency to avoid losing the pattern while it baked. Each scale had to be individually cut out and stuck onto the body, and Dough-ki even includes the character’s distinctive golden-horned helmet.

While superhero fandom is famous for celebrating beloved characters with impressive creativity, particularly through cosplay, a bread sculpture has to be one of the more unusual examples. But, that is fitting for someone as odd as Alligator Loki, who was destined to become a fan-favorite from his first appearance in the mid-credits scene of Loki episode 4. While fans in the Bay Area can go check out One House Bakery’s creation in person, everyone else can only enjoy from afar, and hope that Alligator Loki has a future in the MCU.
