GI Joe 2 Will Begin Filming By End Of The Year

After raking in worldwide grosses of nearly $300 million, it’s no surprise that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was getting a sequel. Now, thanks to a Korean news site, we know that G.I. Joe 2 will begin filming by the end of the year.

The article (which comes our way thanks to iesb) focuses on Korean actor Lee Byeong-Heon, who played the inimitable Storm Shadow. The report declares that Byeong-Heon will “be starting the filming by the end of this year and has been contracted for the 3rd sequel, also!”

Assuming this is true, (and why wouldn’t we believe an obscure Korean news article, right?) Paramount is wasting no-time at all on moving forward with the G.I. Joe franchise. Hopefully, since there’s no writer’s strike to muck up the script, the plot will of the next film will be slightly better than the first.

In related G.I. Joe news, Dennis Quaid has told io9 that he’s definitely on board for G.I. Joe 2. Specifically, he said “Yeah if they do one, I’m there.” It’s interesting to note that Quaid’s remarks about G.I. Joe say “if” and not “when.” I’m purely speculating here, but if we’re hearing that G.I. Joe 2 will start filming at the end of the year, wouldn’t casting be finalized?

On the other hand, Quaid’s remarks came at the end of a very long interview that focused mainly on Pandorum, not G.I. Joe, so there was no really no reason for him to elaborate further. Plus, whenever we’re dealing with foreign news stories, there’s always the chance for mistranslation.

What do you think? Are you ready to see G.I. Joe 2?
