Ghostbusters: Afterlife Video Offers BTS Look At Egon’s Farmhouse

Adam Savage unveils a new video for his Tested YouTube channel giving a behind-the-scenes look at Egon Spengler’s farmhouse in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The latest installment in the beloved supernatural comedy franchise will act as a follow-up to the original films and center on single mother Callie and her children Phoebe and Trevor as they are forced to move a decaying farmhouse in Oklahoma left to them by Callie’s late father, Spengler. As a series of unexplained earthquakes begin rattling the town, which is not located on any fault lines, the children discover Spengler’s history as a Ghostbuster and must use his spirit-fighting equipment to save the town and possibly the world.

Development on a proper third installment of the Ghostbusters franchise languished in development hell for years as the original cast’s interest in returning came and went frequently, namely Bill Murray. Following the death of Harold Ramis, Sony elected to produce a female-fronted reboot from Bridesmaids director Paul Feig which received generally positive reviews from critics but was a box office bomb, resulting in sequel plans being canceled by the studio. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was announced to be in the works in 2019 with Jason Reitman, son to original director Ivan, set to co-write and direct and the story acting as a continuation of the original two films, ignoring the reboot entirely.

With just over three months remaining until the film’s arrival, Savage has taken to YouTube to share a BTS look of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The video from the former MythBusters co-host gives viewers a better glimpse at the farmhouse once owned by Egon passed down to his daughter Callie and her children. Though the trailers for the film have displayed some large-scale CGI set pieces, Savage’s BTS video offers a nice look at some of the more practical work going into Ghostbusters: Afterlife, namely Egon’s farmhouse. One of the more impressive feats revealed in the video is the production team’s work on buying a unique-looking barn and having it moved entirely from an unspecified location to the Alberta ranch set. Additionally, the work the team has put into little visual tricks for the house itself, including the mirror that can adjust its angle to avoid a camera reflection, is sure to create a treasure trove of Easter eggs for fans of the franchise.

The biggest takeaway from the BTS video of Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the look at the equipment of the titular paranormal investigation team. With the story of the film taking place years after the original films, it’s intriguing to see this passage of time carry over into the proton packs and P.K.E. meter, which look worn down after all that time spent in the Oklahoma farmhouse. Only time will tell what other mysteries Egon’s farmhouse holds when Ghostbusters: Afterlife hits theaters on November 11.
