Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer Gives First Look At Original Team’s Return

Sony Pictures releases the final Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer featuring the first look at the return of the original team members for the sequel. The fourth installment in the horror comedy franchise will see the returns of Bill Murray, Dan Ayrkoyd and Ernie Hudson alongside franchise vets Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts. The cast will be led by Ghostbusters newcomers Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Paul Rudd, Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife hails from co-writer/director Jason Reitman, son of original producer/director Ivan who also returns as producer on the film. The story brings the focus back to the original Ghostbusters timeline after the box office failure of the 2016 reboot and center on Egon Spengler’s single mother daughter and her kids as they move into a farmhouse in a small Oklahoma town he left to them. The kids learn of his investigation into the supernatural phenomena coming from a nearby mine with potential ties to the Manhattan Crossrip of 1984 and must use Spengler’s old Ghostbuster equipment to save the world again.

With just two weeks remaining until its release, Sony has unveiled the final Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer. The video offers a look at the apocalyptic threat the Spengler family will face in the film as well as offers the first look at the original team’s return. Check out the final trailer below:

The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot saw criticism from fans for a number of things, though the cynical cameo appearances from the original cast was certainly one of the more despised elements. The confirmation that Ghostbusters: Afterlife would not only bring the story back to the original timeline but also see the returns of Murray, Aykroyd and Hudson certainly drove anticipation to the roof for the sequel. While the final Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer may not show their faces, the sight of three of the original four back in their suits and proton packs is sure to raise excitement higher than it already is.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is not only riding a wave of high anticipation from audiences, but also a wave of positive early reviews from critics, who have praised the performances, direction and nostalgic tone while splitting reviewers on the film’s handling of its fan service. Given the divisive nature of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, a dollop of fan service will likely come as a welcome effort from audiences along with the return of its original cast members. Only time will tell where the franchise could go next when Ghostbusters: Afterlife hits theaters on November 19.
