Ghostbusters: Afterlife Game Lets You Capture Ghosts In Real Life

Fans of Ghostbusters can soon live out their fantasies thanks to the upcoming release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe. The newly-announced game is an AR-based mobile app that will give users the power to catch ghosts in the real world, similar to other AR games that blend reality with fiction like Pokémon GO.

AR mobile games have grown in popularity over the last few years, in part due to a general increase in the number of mobile gamers, but also thanks to the success of Pokémon GO. The Niantic-developed game is often recognized as being the stand-out success of the genre, allowing players to become Pokémon trainers using their mobile devices, able to catch, collect, and battle pocket monsters in a real-world setting. 2021 alone has seen a number of high-profile AR games released, including The Witcher: Monster Slayer as well as Niantic’s latest AR venture, the recently-launched walking app Pikmin Bloom.

From developer Imprazario Entertainment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe celebrates the upcoming release of the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie, and could be the next big AR game when it comes to iOS and Android devices on November 19. The game will put players in the new Jason Reitman film as they defend their surroundings ahead of an “oncoming apocalypse.” Users will need to acquire “unlicensed nuclear equipment” to fight the supernatural, found through hidden clues and character interactions, while protecting their homestead from unwanted ghosts and ghouls. Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe’s official description explains:

“The experience immerses you in the Ghostbusters universe. You must duck and dodge incoming paranormal attacks, or else find yourself wiping your phone’s view of ectoplasmic residue. You must solve puzzles to collect and earn nuclear energy cells to power your ghostbusting equipment, or else suffer shocking consequences.”

As seen in the trailer for the new AR game, Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe looks unmissable for Ghostbusters fans, showing off a number of the fan-favorite ghouls seen from the movies, including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s Muncher. Players will also be able to utilize a number of tools from the franchise, such as the Proton Pack, and Ghost Trap. Created in collaboration between Imprezario Entertainment, Sony Pictures and Ghost Corps, Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe will likely be a popular download as the movie celebrates its cinematic release later this month.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe might not only appeal to Ghostbusters fans, but also Nintendo players. Gameplay shown in the trailer looks somewhat similar to Nintendo’s Luigi’s Mansion series, in which players control Luigi as he tries to free haunted buildings from their ghouls using his trusty vacuum cleaner, The Poltergust 3000. Capturing tricky and hard-to-catch ghosts is a main element of the series, and those who enjoy ghost-hunting in the Nintendo games might want to try their hand at some real-world ghoul-busting when the new Ghostbusters game releases.
