‘Ghost Rider 2’ Clips: Demonic Demolition Work & Monks on Wheels

Expectations have never been high, when it concerns Crank helmers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s ability to create an especially captivating take on the Ghost Rider mythology in this month’s sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Early word is that the film doesn’t exactly offer much, as far as richly-realized character and plot development goes – but that it does deliver the goods where bombastic action set pieces and nonstop thrills are concerned.

Heck, going by the previous Spirit of Vengeance TV spots and featurettes released – along with the handful of new clips we have for you to watch today – it’s easy to forget that this followup DOES actually have a plot; one that could set the stage for a welcome change-up in casting for future Ghost Rider installments, no less.

Here’s the official lowdown on said storyline for the Ghost Rider sequel:

In the successor to the worldwide hit Ghost Rider, Johnny (Nicolas Cage) – still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter – is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

Check out the latest clips from Spirit of Vengeance to judge for yourself if the crazy action sequences in this flick are justification enough to see this movie on the big screen:

Crazy practical stunts involving motorbikes, destructive pieces of construction equipment being lit on fire, and gritty shootouts between mercenaries and CGI-enhanced demonic warriors? If nothing else, Spirit of Vengeance should have plenty to offer its target demographic of teenage boys and die-hard actions fans, alike.

Comic book fans who are hoping for a superhero adaptation that offers more than just stylish (albeit, mindless) blockbuster action? You’ll have to wait until this summer, when the big guns like The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spider-Man all hit the scene.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance arrives in U.S. theaters (2D and 3D) on February 17th, 2012.
