George Clinton Admits Joy On The Masked Singer Stage Was ‘Authentic’

George Clinton didn’t have to fake a smile on The Masked Singer as his enthusiasm was as genuine as it looked. The musician competed as Gopher during Hall of Fame night and performed “It’s Your Thing,” by The Isley Brothers. The contestant competed against Venus Fly Trap, revealed as George Foreman, and Bride, whose identity is still a secret. The professional boxer was eliminated first, then George went up against Bride for a Battle Royale performance of Smash Mouth’s “All Star.” Ultimately, Bride moved on to the next round. Panelists Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger confidently guessed George was behind Gopher.

Despite being eliminated from The Masked Singer after one performance, George had a very positive experience on the show. In his The Masked Singer Unmasked Interview, the musician couldn’t stop smiling as he explained the joy that fans saw on stage was very real. “I’m 81, and that was kind of heavy,” George said of his Gopher mask. “But it was worth it. That big smile you saw, that was authentic.” George also said he likes “blowing minds,” and he’s glad he was able to do that on The Masked Singer. The panelists loved seeing him on their stage just as much as he loved being there. Robin even left the panelists’ table to join George for his elimination performance.

The Masked Singer‘s Pre-Episode Gopher Guesses Were Wrong

The Masked Singer contestant was the only one of the night with professional singing experience. Some of his clues included a photo of a dog, hinting at his 1982 single “Atomic Dog.” Fans initially thought the clue, which was specifically a Corgi, hinted toward a British performer since Queen Elizabeth II was known for owning two Corgis. However, they soon found out this was not the case when George stepped on stage and started singing.

George may not have made it very far on The Masked Singer, but he had fun while he was there. That’s what the show is really about, and that’s why fans tune in season after season. Season 8 has had some exciting celebrity contestants and some more recognizable ones than season 7. While fans have expressed dislike for The Masked Singer season 8 format, which eliminates two contestants a night, they haven’t had many complaints about the celebrity reveals.

The Masked Singer fans would much rather see George on the show than some of the controversial contestants from the past. The musician was a great addition to the season, and hopefully, producers will continue to include celebrities who are there to have a good time and who know how to keep the crowd entertained. The Hall of Fame episode may have been the beginning and end of the road for George, but fans will continue to rewatch his performance for as long as it exists online. He certainly fit The Masked Singer‘s theme for the night.

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 pm EST on Fox.
