The next “Special Program” for Genshin Impact will revolve around Update 2.1, developer miHoYo announced while also confirming the stream date of August 20. As tradition dictates with the popular action RPG, the excitement for Genshin Impact’s next major content drop is through the roof.
Such anticipation most notably rears its head whenever new leaks and rumors regarding Update 2.1 makes the rounds. And, of course, there’s currently no shortage of leaks and rumors, thanks to a recent beta testing phase. The Tales for upcoming playable heroes like Baal, Kokomi, and Sara have already surfaced, for example, with prematurely released details also claiming the start of Version 2.1 will position Baal and Sara as Banner characters. Other leaks suggest new content in Inazuma is on the horizon, along with a fishing mini-game that will allow players to reel in upwards of 20 different fish. Should any of the above prove accurate, fans may very well receive confirmation later this week.
In a post featured on the official Genshin Impact Twitter account, miHoYo unveiled plans to host a “special preview program” for Genshin Impact on Friday, August 20 at 9:00 AM ET. “Be there or be square,” the tweet from miHoYo reads, letting fans know that they can watch the forthcoming Update 2.1 sneak peek by tuning in to Genshin Impact‘s Twitch page at the designated date and time. The Version 2.1-centric broadcast for Genshin Impact should unleash a slew of details about the free-to-play title’s next major content rollout. Thus, many of the ongoing leaks will either be corroborated or outright debunked by miHoYo. Friday’s broadcast may also hint at a due date for the 2.1 patch; however, previous streams of this nature suggest much is not a guarantee.
Genshin Impact will soon celebrate its one-year anniversary, having initially hit PC, PS4, Android, and iOS devices last year on September 28. The online action RPG eventually migrated to PlayStation 5 alongside the 1.5 update, adding improved textures, speedier loading times, 4K visuals, and support for the console’s DualSense controller. Unfortunately, as of writing, there is still no word on when exactly the previously teased Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact will go live.
Genshin Impact is available to play across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Android, and iOS platforms.
