Gender-Swapped Kylo Ren Cosplay Is Absolutely Sinister

One brilliant Star Wars cosplay shows a female Kylo Ren leaning into the dark side of the Force, representing what an incredible character Kylo was. Although the sequels are unfortunately seen as some of Star Wars’ worst movies, they nevertheless contain many gems, one of them being Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. In fact, while he’s not necessarily one of Star Wars’ most powerful Sith, he nevertheless became a fan-favorite villain. Unfortunately, his Star Wars story seems to have ended with his death in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and one cosplay is a reminder of what could have been.

The cosplay, posted by 3velynn_._ on Instagram, shows a crouching female Kylo Ren wielding Kylo’s classic red lightsaber. In it, she looks truly sinister, with very pale skin and bright Sith eyes.

This cosplay is an exciting reminder of how incredible Kylo Ren is as a character, making his presumed absence from Rey’s upcoming Star Wars movie all the more painful.

Kylo Ren actor Adam Driver has made it clear that he’s no longer involved with Star Wars, which is disappointing news for Rey’s new movie. The movie, rumored to be titled New Jedi Order, is to be set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Given that timeline, Rey’s movie represents the perfect opportunity to find a loophole to Ben Solo’s tragic death at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Particularly as his death was one of the most controversial moves the movie made, this would certainly make sense.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem likely not only because of Driver’s comments but also because of the direction the movie will presumably be taking. Rey actress Daisy Ridley and Rey’s Star Wars movie director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy have both stated that the movie is meant to be exciting and new. Bringing back a character from the sequel trilogy therefore likely doesn’t fit the bill. Moreover, Star Wars has been clear that Rise of Skywalker was the end of the Skywalker Saga; with Ben being the last of the Skywalker bloodline, his return would undercut that.

Given that, it seems likely that Kylo Ren/Ben Solo’s Star Wars story is truly over, which is a shame for the character and the franchise. Ben Solo was a truly fascinating character, carrying on the legacy of his grandfather, mother, and uncle. Kylo Ren was also an exciting new villain, with the added complexity of having been done wrong by Luke Skywalker, who was previously a Star Wars hero. As this cosplay makes clear, too, Kylo Ren was simply an incredibly cool Star Wars character, and it’s disappointing to think he won’t be back.
