Gen V’s Surprise Cameo Is A Major Story Hint For The Boys Season 4

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Gen V episode 7!

Gen V episode 7 features a huge surprise cameo, with the appearance being a major story hint for The Boys season 4. Gen V has been full of characters, storylines, and worldbuilding elements from The Boys, with the two shows overlapping in a major way. However, Gen V was mostly a self-contained story for the majority of season 1, with it not having a huge impact on the main series. Gen V episode 7, however, has changed everything, introducing a character that has major implications on not only the ending of Gen V season 1, but on the future of The Boys season 4.

Gen V is finally here, with the highly-anticipated spinoff of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys nearing the end of season 1. The series takes a new look at the universe of The Boys, with Gen V this time focusing on a supe college known as Godolkin Unviersity. Gen V follows Marie Moreau, a blood-bending supe who gets the opportunity to attend the prestigious Vought-run university. Upon arriving, however, Marie quickly realizes that things aren’t quite as they seem. With a massive conspiracy underway, all of the pieces are in play in episode 7, leading to a cameo from a major The Boys character.

Mallory Knows About Gen V’s Virus – The Boys Must Too!

Gen V’s Surprise Cameo Is A Major Story Hint For The Boys Season 4

Near the beginning of Gen V episode 7, Dean Shetty has a secret meeting with an important figure from The Boys: Grace Mallory. Grace Mallory is a former CIA agent who has been helping Billy Butcher and the gang throughout The Boys, with her grudge against supes aligning her with the ideology of the titular team. During the meeting, Shetty tells Grace Mallory about the supe virus, a contagion that was developed in Vought’s The Woods facility and can kill any supe. A weapon as powerful as this is something that Mallory would definitely want to know about, but she may not be the only interested party.

Grace Mallory is known for providing resources and information to the Boys, meaning that if she knows about Gen V‘s supe virus, they probably know too. The Boys are a team dead set on killing supes, with them always looking for a way to take down Homelander and Vought’s other spandex-clad superhumans. A virus that can cause a mass death event among the supes would be something that Billy Butcher would want to get his hands on, meaning that Grace Mallory has probably already told the team of its existence. Gen V episode 7 may have even shown the moment in which she does.

Who Mallory Is On The Phone To In Gen V Episode 7

After Dean Shetty leaves, Grace Mallory secretly pulls her phone out and asks the caller if they heard everything. Gen V episode 7 doesn’t reveal who is on the other side of the call, however, leading to rampant speculation about who it may be. The most obvious choice would be Billy Butcher or one of the other members of the Boys. Due to the Boys’ longtime partnership with Mallory, it would make sense for her to have them listening in on the private meeting with Dean Shetty. Although they seem to be likely picks, they aren’t the only ones who could be on the phone with Grace Mallory.

Dean Shetty is a rogue Vought employee set on bringing the company down.Since Grace Mallory is working with her, people like Shetty are of interest to Mallory. It could be that Grace Mallory is on the phone with Stan Edgar, the former CEO of Vought. Edgar definitely has the motivation to bring down Homelander as well as his former company, with Grace Mallory possibly getting Edgar to do her job for her. Mallory may have also been on the phone with one of Vought’s rogue supes, such as Queen Maeve, Starlight, or even a recently awakened Soldier Boy. Hopefully this mystery will be resolved in Gen V episode 8.

Gen V’s Virus Looks Set To Play A Big Role In The Boys Season 4

Due to Grace Mallory’s cameo in Gen V, the supe virus looks set to play a big role in The Boys season 4. If the Boys are tracking it, the supe virus could very easily become the main focus of the upcoming season, with all of the interested parties racing to get their hands on the weapon. This would also put Gen V‘s characters in the same sphere of influence as The Boys‘ characters, creating an interesting dynamic between the supe and human protagonists of each show. Gen V‘s deadly supe virus is sure to be controversial, meaning that all of the supe characters will probably want to destroy it.

At the end of Gen V episode 7, Victoria Neuman kills Dr. Cardosa and takes the last existing sample of the virus, setting the stage for the Gen V season 1 finale. Victoria Neuman is set to be the main villain of The Boys season 4, so giving her the supe virus makes her an even more powerful threat. The supe virus could be what gives her leverage throughout the upcoming season, as it makes her a nearly unstoppable supe-killing force. The story of Gen V‘s supe virus is far too big to be contained in the spinoff series, meaning that it has to make its way into The Boys.

Mallory Learning About The Virus Sets Up The Boys’ Comic Ending

Karl Urban in The Boys

Having Grace Mallory learn about the supe virus in Gen V was actually a perfect choice, as it finally sets up The Boys‘ comic ending. In the comics, Billy Butcher has a drastic final plan. He manages to obtain a biological weapon capable of killing supes and unleashes it, killing a massive swath of Vought heroes. This genocidal tactic was the climax of Billy Butcher’s breaking point, with it being a controversial move. Although this storyline hasn’t been hinted at in The Boys yet, Grace Mallory’s Gen V appearance may finally cause it to happen.

If Billy Butcher is truly able to get the virus by using information supplied by Mallory, he could repeat his comic book story arc. Of all the characters in The Boys, Billy Butcher would be the most likely one to unleash the virus. Although it wouldn’t be exactly like the comic ending, Billy Butcher unleashing the supe virus on the world would get pretty close, making the events of Gen V episode 7 have a huge impact on The Boys season 4.

New episodes of Gen V release Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
