GeForce RTX 30 Series Gaming Laptops Coming Soon: What You Need To Know

Nvidia has now confirmed that more than 70 new gaming laptops will be arriving to market soon, powered by its GeForce RTX 30 GPU series. These graphics cards have proven to be highly popular since they launched late last year, but availability has remained an issue. With so many new laptops now coming with the graphics cards inside, consumers will have additional choices beyond the desktop GPUs released so far.

Nvidia launched the RTX 30 series in the second half of 2020 although the release dates for the different tiered desktop cards varied over months. The RTX 3080 and 3090 were the first to become available, followed by the RT3070. Even more recently, Nvidia announced an even cheaper option in the form of the RTX 3060 Ti and, this week during CES 2021, announced a standard version of the RTX 3060 graphics card as well.

Along with the RTX 3060 announcement, Nvidia also confirmed that more than 70 gaming laptops with RTX 30 series cards inside will be available over the coming months. The price and availability does vary somewhat, depending on the particular card, but the first of these new gaming laptops are set to arrive this month. While these are different to the desktop RTX cards, they do come with many of the same features and benefits.

With so many new laptops coming, there are plenty of options and brands to choose from. Nvidia has confirmed that GeForce RTX 30 series laptops will be available from Acer, Alienware, Asus, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Razer, among others. Laptops powered by the GeForce RTX 3070 and 3080 will be the first to arrive, followed at a later date by laptops equipped with the GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. In spite of being the last to launch, GeForce RTX 3060 GPU laptops will be the cheapest in general, with pricing starting at $999 in the U.S. In contrast, the GeForce RTX 3070 laptops will arrive with a starting price of $1,299 while buyers can expect to pay at least $1,999 for a GeForce RTX 3080 laptop once available.

The RTX 30 series GPUs come with a number of improvements over previous cards, including improved ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS, although the exact specs, level of performance and/or efficiency gains will depend on the card. Overall, this should make it a little easier to choose which model is right for a consumer. For example, the RTX 3060 is suited to deliver 90 frames per second at 1080p, while the 3070 and 3080 push that limit up to 1440p. Furthermore, the RTX 3080 specifically, will deliver more than 100 frames per second, making it all the more suitable for those in need of the best Nvidia GPU-powered laptop experience.
