Games Like Poppy Playtime To Try While Waiting On Ch. 2’s Release Date

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2’s release date is still pending, but in the meantime, there are plenty of games like it to try before it comes out. It’s not the only puzzle/horror title on the market, after all, and the genre is full of fun games with their own unique charms. Even if they don’t feature Huggy Wuggy or the Playtime Co. toy factory, other horror games have plenty to offer players, especially ones who are fans of Poppy Playtime.

In their bid to free the game’s titular toy, Poppy, players will navigate the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory, where they’ll solve puzzles and uncover pieces of the series’ lore, all while being pursued by a monstrous blue doll that’s hiding a dark secret and an appetite. Kids love Poppy Playtime‘s Huggy Wuggy for some reason, and the game itself has enjoyed a great deal of success in a small amount of time. A second chapter, titled Fly in a Web, is coming soon, but it doesn’t have a fixed release date yet. A trailer for it has shown off the next main monster, Mommy Long Legs, who looks just as terrifying as – if not more than – Huggy Wuggy.

The horror genre is awash with games, some of which Poppy Playtime likely draws inspiration from. With all of the frightening titles out there, there’s plenty to keep players busy until the next chapter comes out. Some may even become new favorites, or inspire a fresh wave of nightmares. Poppy Playtime itself is also worth playing again, since a new playthrough may offer details that players didn’t notice before. The secret message in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2’s trailer might not be fully understood until the game comes out, but eagle-eyed players may uncover something that most overlook by replaying the original chapter.

FNAF Is Worth Playing Before Poppy Playtime Ch. 2

Five Nights at Freddy‘s is another indie horror title similar to Poppy Playtime, one that the game draws a lot of inspiration from. In it, players try to survive against haunted animatronic robots who are trying to stuff them into a suit of the game’s mascot, Freddy Fazbear. Despite the relative simplicity of its gameplay, the overarching story is deep, and the lore is about as complex as it comes. Jumpscares abound throughout the series, and parallels between the two games can be found in many places such as the extra rows of teeth that both Huggy Wuggy and the animatronics possess. Poppy Playtime is arguably better than FNAF, but Scott Cawthon’s famous monsters have no small amount of scares to offer both new and returning players.

The FNAF series is mostly simple point-and-click games with only one room, so the controls are similar to Poppy Playtime‘s even if the gameplay isn’t. The latest entry, Security Breach, however, broke the series’ mold by being an open-world title, bringing it even closer to Poppy Playtime. The themes of toys coming to life and menacing the player, even if plush dolls and restaurant mascots aren’t quite the same, are very much present. The horrible human experiments that brought Huggy Wuggy and the other Playtime Co. toys to life also somewhat mimic the grisly Michael Afton murders that trapped childrens’ souls in the animatronics. The two series are alike in multiple ways, and it’s possible that more will become apparent as the series goes on, especially since Poppy Playtime is almost the new FNAF. It’s also possible, however, that it will break away from Freddy Fazbear and his pizzeria.

Hello Neighbor Is Somewhat Similar To Poppy Playtime

Hello Neighbor 2's Mr. Peterson Will Learn From Every Player

Hello Neighbor is a survival horror game about a young child trying to escape from his dastardly neighbor. The game is split into three Acts. In Act One, the player, Nicky, is a child who decides to break into the basement of his grieving neighbor, Mr. Peterson, after hearing a scream coming from it. In the second, Nicky has been captured by Mr. Peterson, and must escape from that same basement. In Act Three, Nicky is an adult moving back into his childhood home, and things get complicated fast. Between the shadow people and the giant version of Mr. Peterson, it can be tough to follow what’s happening in the last part of the game. A sequel, Hello Neighbor 2, is scheduled for release in December, but a recently-released trailer offers more questions than answers.

Poppy Playtime is not safe for kids, and Hello Neighbor isn’t much better. In terms of similarities, they mostly lie in the stealth horror themes that the two games share, as well as their antagonists. Being hunted down by a powerful foe that the player is helpless against is terrifying whether it’s Huggy Wuggy or Mr. Peterson. The puzzles that players have to solve in order to navigate their neighbor’s home are also somewhat reminiscent of the ones in the Playtime Co. toy factory. They’re far from an exact match, but Poppy Playtime and Hello Neighbor have some things in common if players know where to look.

Games To Play While Waiting For Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 – Bendy & The Ink Machine

Bendy And The Ink Machine Music Sign

Bendy and the Ink Machine is another indie horror game, and one where players explore an abandoned locale like they do in Poppy Playtime, only without classic-toy-inspired monsters. In it, they find malicious cartoons, deranged angels, and a whole lot of ink. Henry Stein, co-creator of the Joey Drew company and its mascot, Bendy, has to navigate the game’s labyrinthian animation studio in order to discover its secrets and stop Ink Bendy from killing him and his new friends. Meanwhile, supernatural living ink in the form of the cartoons he helped create pursue him at almost every turn. At the end of the game, it starts all over again, revealing that he’s trapped in a time loop dimension known as The Cycle. The sequel, Bendy and the Dark Revival, will hopefully reveal more about this world, but for now, it remains shrouded in mystery.

The similarities between Poppy Playtime and Bendy and the Ink Machine are fairly obvious. Just as it’s implied that Huggy Wuggy is Poppy Playtime‘s Experiment 1006, made with Playtime Co. workers, former Joey Drew employees became ink creatures in Bendy. Both have players explore a factory of sorts, and although there are living cartoons instead of living toys, the idea of whimsical elements becoming twisted and demented are present in both series. Bendy is also episodic, much like Poppy Playtime will be. Both player characters are ex-employees, and the unstoppable monstrous force chasing them through the factory is still present in Bendy even if it’s not a constant threat. Dark Revival may show players even more similarities with Poppy Playtime, but since the release dates for both it and Chapter 2 are currently unknown, it’s tough to say when they would become apparent.
