Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters That Deserve A Spin-Off Series

Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters That Deserve A Spin-Off Series

One of the main things that made Game of Thrones unique was its large cast of diverse characters that could, potentially, die at a moment’s notice. While audiences did have their favorites who could win the Iron Throne for their own, the fact that everyone’s fate was so up in the air made the show a major draw.

Now that the show is no longer airing, fans have been eagerly waiting for some other spin-off show to pop up, and while there have been a few mentions, there hasn’t been any solid announcement. If there is a spin-off show on the horizon, plenty of characters and stories deserve to be featured in it.

Khal Drogo

Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters That Deserve A Spin-Off Series

Khal Drogo was the fierce and intimidating leader of the Dothraki and lover to Daenerys. Unfortunately, his time on the show was brief when he died due to an infection from the slash on his chest.

Drogo was built up to be a very intense character the first season, especially when Dany first meets him. He was told to be the fiercest leader of the Dothraki and had never lost a battle, which is why his hair was never cut. Although he was supposedly a great warrior and horse-master, fans never really got to see much of him. A spin-off including more about the Dothraki people and the rise of their mighty chieftain would be an interesting and entertaining story to behold.

Jaqen H’ghar “Faceless Man”

collage of Jaqen H'ghar from Game of Thrones

Jaqen H’ghar is a persona taken on by the “Faceless Man” who assists Arya and trains her to become “no one.” The shroud of mystery around his character made him an odd but curious character for the fans and left much to be wondered about the “Faceless Men.”

Jaqen H’ghar is a bewildering character with his skill to take on many faces and identities that he wishes and be the ultimate assassin—as he proved when he grants Arya three deaths of her choice. Jaqen’s character remains a mystery for most of the first few seasons of the series until Arya decides to go to Braavos to be trained by him. Fans were shown brief lore into the “Faceless Men” and their “Faceless God,” but there was much left to be imagined.

Sansa Stark

collage of Sansa from Game of Thrones

Sansa was a very frustrating character to watch in the first few seasons, but fans were able to see her growth and development throughout the series. She went through many terrible things that finally shaped her into a powerful woman, fit to be queen.

Sansa transformed from a bratty, selfish little princess to a strong, independent queen throughout the series. Her character development was probably one of the best, but since she didn’t become this newfound Sansa until the end, fans didn’t get a chance to see her in all her glory. Sansa is given the title of Queen of the North, and it would be great for the fans to see her evolved character carry out that fitting role.

Sandor Clegane “The Hound”

collage of Sandor Clegane from Game of Thrones

Sandor Clegane had the best evolution throughout Game of Thrones, going from being a willing minion to the Lannisters to a beloved companion and hero to the other characters and people of Westeros. While his redemption story was a tale to see, his history remained quite a mystery despite his explanations.

Clegane’s development in the show was a trifling and exciting rollercoaster, constantly making fans wonder where his allegiance lies and what would be his next move. His rivalry and hatred with his brother were prominent themes up to the end when he finally gets a chance to battle him and get his retribution. Clegane explains to Arya a bit about what happened with his brother when he was younger and why his face was burnt, but his backstory leading up to his place by the Lannisters would make a dark and action-full visual.

Brienne of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth was a legendary character and fan-favorite of the series, becoming the first woman to become a knight. Her bravery and skill in battle made her a character truly ahead of her time, and no doubt someone fans wish they could see more of.

Brienne defied all rules and norms of the world around her and dreamed of being a knight, even though people sneered and mocked her for doing so. She was one of the most loyal and talented warriors in the show. Fans watched her story of vengeance, duty, and unrequited love unroll and loved her for being a unique and moral character amidst the chaos around her. There is still so much about her character and development that remains in the dark, waiting to be uncovered.

Ned Stark

Ned Stark was undoubtedly one of the favorite characters in the initial seasons, not only because of Sean Bean but because he was a character full of values and compassion. Although the show was following the sequences of the books, fans were still sad and shocked to see this well-written character ruined so early on.

Ned was one of the only seemingly just and heroic characters in the series, despite having a bit of controversy—Jon being his bastard son. When the truth was revealed about Jon and why Ned was protecting him, Ned’s character only got better and better. There is so much about Ned’s backstory and history, not to mention his skill, that was teased at in the show that fans want better explained and showed in detail.

Aerys II Targaryen “The Mad King”

The history behind the events leading up to the current world and leadership of Westeros was all centered around the notorious figure, “The Mad King.” Fans are given bits and pieces about what happened with Aerys, but much could have been played into.

Rightly named, “The Mad King” was a notorious king of the Seven Kingdoms who, although supposedly starting his reign as a peaceful and beloved ruler, succumbed to madness and slaughtered many innocent people. His reign ended when Jaime Lannister stabbed him in the back, which is why he came to be known as the “Kingslayer.” Aerys II’s rule played an important role in many of the stories and development of the main characters and would be interesting to see more about.

Melisandre “The Red Woman”

Melisandre, often called “The Red Woman”, was a Red Priestess and guiding force for Stannis Baratheon up to his death. She was another mysterious character with many details behind her power and persona left unsaid.

Although her motives were often misleading and confusing—such as birthing a shadow assassin to kill Renly, convincing Stannis to sacrifice his daughter, and other insane rituals—there is no doubt Melisandre is a powerful and wise character. She has unexplained abilities that allowed her to do much for Stannis and others. Her necklace keeps her young, even though she is actually well-traversed and has been around for a long time. It makes fans curious to know what she had witnessed and assisted in before her alliance with Stannis.

Arya Stark

collage of Arya Stark from Game of Thrones

Arya is undoubtedly the bravest Stark in the series and one of the best characters in general. She experienced so much in the span of all the seasons and continued to grow and develop until she became the character that honestly saved all of Westeros.

Arya had potential from the very beginning, being fearless and defying all gender norms and standards expected of her. She wanted to learn to fight and make a difference for her family and house. Out of all the characters, she learned and experienced the most about all aspects of cultures and methods of fighting. She continued to grow on that initial potential and become the fierce character everyone expected and more by killing the Night King and saving everyone.

The Night King

collage of the Night King from Game of Thrones

The Night King is another dire character behind the whole plot of the show. He is an ominous villain and threat that fans hear a lot about but remains a little unknown and mysterious. He appears like an undead, monstrous character but was a human before his transformation.

There is so much lore and history about the White Walkers and the creation of the Night King that fans only get peaks off in the series. As he becomes the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran explains how The Children of the Forest initially created the White Walkers to protect their lands from the First Men. So, perhaps their kind wasn’t always meant for destruction and death. There is so much to learn about who the Night King was before his transformation and his power as a whole.
